Yorkshire Dales, Lake District
Ladies&Gentlemen
I am going to stay near Clitheroe (Yorkshire Dales) for a week over Easter.
Does anybody have any suggestions of places to visit and roads to drive with nice views?
Thank you

Fabio

The trough of Bowland is lovely. I will try and remember which roads are good ones. There is also Pendle hill with the witch villages. Clitheroe has a famous sausage shop. The whole area is where I learnt to drive many many years ago as I had to drive the family from Bradford to morecambe every week to visit relatives, the route through the trough of Bowland was always my first choice.

You could perhaps visit Huddersfield Land Rover Centre - http://www.landrovercentre.com/ for a look around, they often have some interesting 'series' vehicles in for sale. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

You're quite close to me. From Clitheroe I would drive to Dunsop Bridge - and have something at the tea shop there - then head north on one of the two roads that go north out of there. The northwestern one would be my preference - if it's a clear day and you time it for sunset you'll see the sun set over the sea on te west coast.

Where are you coming from ?

Hi Anderzander.
I'll be coming from Somerset.
That also sounds good is there a nice road I can take towards the lake district?
I'll be staying just up the road from Gisburn

Thank you

If your heading to the lakes then take a trip over hard knot and rhinos passes is a must to test your driving skills, if it's a fine day you get fantastic views Thumbs Up

If you are heading towards the lakes - I'd go on the motorway to maximise your time there. There are endless beautiful routes up there and you'd be best places to increase your time there, rather than travelling there.

Thank you Anderzander.
Rudski
That was one of my ideas to try and go on a track or road like that.
I have seen a few pictures.
Where is it? Is it easy to find?
Thank you

Fabio

Follow the smell of burning clutches and brakes Whistle

If you head into Ambleside, have a look around if you need any outdoor stuff this is the place to get it, some lovely places to eat aswell.
Head for coniston water but turn off right into the langdale valley if I remember hardknot should be signposted, you will come over the pass into the western lakes, ESkdale is a lovely valley the Laal ratty railway, also great walks lowland or if your up for it scafell is on the doorstep. From there you can head round to wasdale for some stunning photos, if you follow the A66 back to keswick you can almost complete the loop back to ambleside Windermere etc, although they are tourist heavy.

If I can give you any more info give me a shout, I'm sure others can give you some green lanes in the area, I haven't partiipated myself so can't comment on that Thumbs Up

Cheers

Fabio,
Just to save you too much embarrassment when you get to Clitheroe it is not in Yorkshire, it is quite definitely in Lancashire and you may make a few enemies if you refer to Clitheroe as being part of Yorkshire.
