Doors: Galvanised Vs Puma
Right I need your thoughts on this, I've already replaced my drivers door due to the frame cracking next to the button, but the passenger door has gone the same way and I've had enough. I need to fix this properly and I've narrowed the choice down to a set of galvanised doors frpm Ashtree, or a set of the pressed steel doors that were fitted from 06 on including Puma.

I'm torn between the two because the galvaninsed door should last longer due to the galv, but in my mind it will always have the potential to crack in the same way that my current ones have. The pressed steel door on the Puma seems to be a lot more 'solid', and also would eliminate the bi-metal corrosion I'm seeing on my current doors.

Obviously neither avenue is going to be cheap, but I'm prepared to spend the money if it means I don't have to worry about being able to lock/unlock the door every time. Mark S

Maybe put some temp knackered old doors on,

Re-enforce your doors by the lock and get them welded (mine has done this also grrrrrr Evil or Very Mad )

Get your original doors Galvanised

refit your Original improved doors

Sell temp doors on ebay

???

Go Beyonds suggestion is a good one as the price for a door is very good. The heavy metal skin might help prevent cracking of the frame. However the later TD5/Puma doors have other advantages over the earlier doors in that they seal better so less wind noise and they have a heavier, more solid feel when shutting them. They are also more resistant to minor dents and knocks over the earlier ones. If you bought a complete set with trim it might also improve the look of your interior. Do you already have C/L, Elec/windows which could be another upgrade if not already fitted. I think I would have sleepless nights trying to decide! Smile

Hmmm, tricky question and one that I am wrestling with too.

IF I could get a good recommendation for the SP doors I would get these, but I cannot find any good review.

I have also been watching eBay to see if a pair of puma doors turn up, but no luck so far.

I've looked at Ashtree they offer both the pressed steel 'puma' doors as well as the galvanised ones. Has anyone bought/fitted puma doors to a Td5 and know which parts will carry over and which I'll have to source?

I've already got CDL (when its working- affected by knackered frame atm) and eclectic windows Laughing

Henry- Plan is to replace both with whatever solution I decide upon. I still have the cracked 'old' drivers door that I replaced a few years ago sitting in the garage, that would be for sale along with the currently fitted ones once I've got this sorted. Mark S

Have you established exactly what a galvanised door consists of - is the door fabricated and then totally immersed in molten zinc? or is it fabricated from pre-galvanised parts which then leaves key points unprotected?

Seems all the doors on the SP site are out of stock. I emailed them today and will update the thread when I get a response.

The last couple of years of TD5 production used the same doors as the Puma so they should be a straight swap. Darren

Theres a pair of 09 doors on a 3 day auction on Ebay at the moment! No reserve! Might be a bargain or might go for silly money! Sellers feedback not the best but that seems to be for selling kids clothes. Anyhow it might help someone on here who needs doors. Ebay item no eBay Item No. 111254542254. I have no connection to the seller! Smile

Anyone know which bits will transfer from the older steel frame/ali skin to the newer all steel doors?

Will the winders, electric windows, handles, seals, glass, door card, etc. fit or are they different?
