United Kingdom 2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Tonga Green
temp gauge needle...
...starts to rise up the gauge then falls to the bottom, any ideas chaps? 2.4 90 XS

My first port of call would be the CHT sensor. If available plug in a diagnostic tool and check the CHT reading on the live data page to see if it corresponds with the temp needle movements. If that is not the cause then you can move onto the next possible issue. Thumbs Up

Does the rev counter fall at the same time as the temp guage ? After the temp guage has fallen does it jump back up or does it move up slowly ?

Hi Pete and Lorryman,

No just the temp gauge, someone mentioned the sender unit in the block could have developed a fault,
as eng temp rises the gauge goes up slowly then falls rapidly then sometimes to rise again then fall. 2.4 90 XS

Grockle unplug the CHT (Cylinder Head Temperature) sensor plug and clean the plug contacts with electrical contact cleaner to see if that rectifies the fault. If not then it is an easy enough job to swap out the CHT with a new one. Thumbs Up

Yes it is only 2 x M6 bolts at the front of the block. You may need to wiggle it a bit around the injector pipes. Thumbs Up

all sorted, had a look but it was freezing, so took it to the local garage in Hartington, all in £29.00 Thumbs Up 2.4 90 XS
