Any Worcester CH boiler experts out there?
Got a problem wth my central heating, surprise surprise when you want it starts playing up! The hot water side works fine apart from a long time in the cooling cycle(when the demand is finished the boiler will recirculate to stop water sitting in one part of the boiler where it is hotter) On the CH side it will fire up but not send water round the radiators, the boiler goes into overheat, cuts the gas off and then spends up to 10 minutes cooling itself down. This points to the diverter valve but it could be the control board not giving the right message. The diverter valve isn't doing it's job but how can you tell about which part is faulty unless it's the age old thing of chucking parts at it untill it's fixed.

Is your diverted valve in the boiler or norm in with hot water tank in cupboard
If it's there they normally have a lever you can manually put into mid position so at least you'd get some heat
What model boiler and I will do a search
Cheers

the Y plan or CH valves decides not to work after not being used all summer like sparkylee says, not too bad to fix, you may be able to free up the valve and just replace the electrics on the top of the valve.

It's a Worcester 280 with everything set in the boiler case. I might take the cover off the diverter valve, I've tried leaning a little on the lever on the side but it's just bending as it's plastic. The only reason I haven't delved in there yet is because the casing screw is right up close to the pressure cylinder, need to dig out my narrow nosed pliers to turn it. No real issue yet as it's not that cold, just put another jumper on and if the boys don't like it then they can sod off to bed!

If you've tried pushing the lever and its stiff, chances are the internals are shot. You should be able to put it into manual mode or mid position, the way the boiler should shove it around the radiators, the diverter comes as a complete lump, it's a job best left to a gas safe engineer.
