taken straight from auto car mag a few months back now, but dont think its been discussed here unless I'm wrong...

note the current defender possibly remaining in production / sale outside the uk for a number of years?

assume if that were the case then they'd be unimportable? Cheers, David

Discussed (many times!) a while back. Yep, they'd be unimportable, just like now with ROW spec vehicles. An engine to TDi for!

I think people sometimes forget that ROW vehicles are being manufactured on the same production lines as UK spec vehicles. The reverse too - two years ago I wanted a LHD Puma, LR took one destined for Belgium and did what was necessary to make it UK legal. And, in the days when there was a choice of engines available, there was the possibility of mix’n’match for other markets (when I lived in Syria, I imported a Defender with a V8 petrol engine, diesel was only allowed for buses and trucks).

BUT, when there are no more Defender assembly lines, there’ll be no more ROW Defenders. I doubt whether any of the manufacturing tooling is worth sending to any other country…

They currently build them in Turkey and, on a smaller scale, in one of the African countries (Kenya? Can't remember). Darren
