Tool chest suggestions
Currently in the process of re-designing the garage and want to put a new tool chest in. I see the Halfords professional range that is always on offer at £349 with free top chest gets good reviews.

Equally the Costco version at £700 looks good too.

Any other similar options out there that can be recommended? At the moment the halfords chest is winning my eye.

Another vote for the halfords industrial cabinets. Not the same quality as snap on etc etc but for £350 very good, holds a lot of tools. The only gripe is that for some of my 30 / 32 mm spanners I have to lie them flat at the drawers are not amazingly deep. THen again a 32 mm spanners is a bit large for a spanner rail.

I've got two Clarke boxes and quite like them. As Gum97 suggested the VAT free days are a good saving. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Ive got clarke hd boxes the black and gold ones. Purely as I was in market for a new chest on the VAT weekends. And the halfords offer wasnt running at that point. The halfords boxes are great and the clarke hd plus are Too I recommend both

Thanks, will take a look at the Clarke stuff, although my previous experience of machine mart has never really shown off a good quality product.

I have this Snap-on top box that's about 30 years old and still as good as the day I bought it...

But common sense said buy the Halfords ones when I needed more space Laughing

If you can wait, the Hlafords black industrial ones are often on offer with a top box and a roller chest for the same price as one alone.

Much better quality than their red ones - I found the drawer slides jam in the red ones and they are not built to take a decent weight.

I have a set of Clarke HD Plus chests and they are top notch. Bought them on the VAT free promotion that they have on quite often.

Keep checking ebay and gumtree for used snap on. You can get some great deals if you're in the right place at the right time. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and have been through a fair few boxes but snap on always comes out on top for me. It depends on how much gear you've got to load it up with though. If you've just got a handful of tools, it's never going to get overloaded and wear out.
