DAB antenna on a heated screen
I have just purchased a Kenwood DAB/fm radio to replace the standard Land Rover unit in my 110 XS SW

The kenwood comes with a stick on DAB antenna. The installation instructions suggest the top corners of the front screen is the best location and I intend to place it on the drivers side (I have a Tamar Tag on the passenger side) but the instructions also say that a heated screen may affect the performance of the antenna.

So, has anyone got any experience of stick on DAB antennas on a heated screen?, interestingly, I found that the screen seems to have no effect on my GPS units but as the DAB antenna is one chance stick on I thought I'd ask for your advice before sticking it on Confused

I can't comment on a heated screen but the reception for dab on my old sony unit was crap on a non heated screen Neutral 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I put mine in the alpine light and then moved to front screen - both were poor so it went back.

Fm still is best IMO. Dad now has a discovery with DAB and signals poor on that too, so use FM instead.

IMO dab has a long way to come before it will oust FM/AM. Maybe it's better down South but in Cheshire/Wales it's very poor. Cheers, David

Also to answer question. My front screen was heated and it was no worse there than in the alpine light Cheers, David

Well, I"ll try the sticky tape approach but it sounds like it should work (after a fashion) agree about the varying signal strengths but bought the radio mainly for the Bluetooth connectivity, got the DAB version as a bit of future proofing as it didn't cost a lot more Smile
If it is really too bad then I'll try an external antenna.

That's quite interesting. My Dad also has a DAB in his Discovery, and the signal is perfect right through Cheshire, North Wales and across the Pennines over to Yorkshire. The signal gets weaker South of Birmingham. How peculiar! Laughing An engine to TDi for!

Hmmm...

The sound is good, but it cuts out altogether every so often.

Ok around major roads but very quickly struggles on B roads etc Cheers, David

Don't bother with the stick on type, rubbish...buy a proper one, I did and fitted it in place of the original antenna Thumbs Up Optimists say the glass is half full..
Pessimists say the glass is half empty..
Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be!

I have tried an alternative approach, without a DAB antenna. I simply plugged my portable DAB radio in via the AUX socket. Even with the aerial fully down digital radio comes through loud and clear. Thumbs Up 1970 Series 2A 88"

Mine works crystal clear in SE Scotland with heated windscreen. Which means i can have my channel of choice wherever i go. Drove around all day today in a works van, FM only. Never ending annoying adverts, childish music and Jeremy fkn Vine reminded me exactly why i asked my dealer to install DAB...Though yet to actually use the heat. Suppose if it fries the aerial, the dealer will have to sort it all out...
