The instructor I had at Eastnor was very coy on the new Defender.... I got the feeling that they been testing them there already. We did see a new Range Rover being tested.... and that was only 2 weeks ago 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

You saw a new range rover being tested 2 weeks ago? They've been on sale for 6/7 months now - I did a LR experience in one a fair few months ago? Cheers, David

And to quote geobloke :-

JLR create 1700 new jobs in ally factory... Report post

Quote:
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plans to create 1,700 jobs at its plant in Solihull as part of a Ł1.5bn investment in expanding its product range.

The money will be spent on designing systems to allow the chassis of future models to be made out of aluminium.

The first of these models will be a new mid-sized sports saloon car to be introduced in 2015.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24018350

It looks like JLR are going from strength to strength at the moment, but does this new factory lead you also to believe the new Defender will be a super light all aluminium vehicle...?!?!

There is a lot of chatter by me. Alot of mates make parts for land rover. Something is def going to happen.

But could it just be a baby land rover or a full blown defender.

Think when I pick my next defender a deposit will have to be put down.

I do not believe that the "new" Defender is the focus of any of that....in fact, I believe that Defender, with only around 16000 sales P.A. worldwide is the least of their priorities at the moment.
Suppliers "gearing up"?..Of course they are, because sales of all models, except Defender, are increasing, so more are being built, more staff, more supplies.....more everything is required...to keep up with booming demand.
I wish I could agree with you, but I can't, because I reckon that whilst a new "Defender", in whatever "shape" will eventually happen,.....I reckon we're talkong 2016...at the earliest.
Cheers, Pickles.

I heard people working on parts for a new model. Something will leak through soon.

Land Rover are very good at keeping things under wraps.

In six months time start driving up and down the m42 you see all their test vehicles driving up and down. Ten years ago I saw a D3 towing a trailer with all it's covers all over it. Seen evoque and range rover on there. Saw a new roller blasting down the hard shoulder.

This new defender will be for large sales volumes I have faith it will be seen soon.

Will the new 4x4 really be called a Defender? Defenders have earned their name from use by the forces & services.
(But then Shoguns were never used by samurai as far as I know...)

An adventurous name, like...um..Discovery or Freelander..might suit. Any ideas? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender
