And I have to agree that PCs aren't the industry standard.

A mac will cope with anything a PC would be it exchange servers, flash, MS office documents, any web technology, even come with PDF readers unlike many pcs. They just do everything easily.

They even come with drivers for 99% of printers, scanners, nice, keyboards, hard drives etc preinstalled. No more browsing the canon/hp/Logitech websites for drivers for your 2 yo PC to find there were 26 different versions and updates and never finding the right one.

Apple also come 1st year after year for customer support, and their extended warranty is well with having at the price / what it covers.

Do it Wink Cheers, David

Yes, if you could transfer files on a PC, you can on a mac.

iPads however are tricky, you can't (really) file transfer with an iPad. You have to use iTunes to 'sync' files onto the iPad. Unfortunately you can't get files off it at all if they're not on your computer.

If your interested in a mac, at an apple store (in most major cities, shopping centres) an apple employee will talk you through it and answer any questions you have. There's no pressure at all, I was a bit worried when I got mine but they were dead helpful. Cheers, David

An ipad's somewhat different to a laptop or a desktop. Generally tablets don't have USB sockets that you can phsyically plug something into.

Instead, they often rely on having the files stored somewhere in "the cloud" (using something like iCloud or Dropbox.). 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

(Or yes, if as david says above -- if you do have a pc or mac as well then you can sync the files over a cable connection Thumbs Up). 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

My macbook pro is from 2009 and is still rock solid/fast etc. Dropped it more than once and no issues.

They do re-furb ones marginally cheaper (they claim up to 35% but I can't see one at such a discount).

You can of course set it up to boot Windows as well, or use industry standard MS Office via a Mac version.

For non Apple, then at work we've always had Toshiba/Dell. Much of a muchness, some good some bad.

Me neither, unfortunately, which is why my Macbook Pro is now running Windows 7. I also have a small number of key (to me) applications for which Mac versions don't exist.

There is some very nifty stuff in the Mac OS, but there's some very frustrating things too when you're used to the 'Windows way'. As I sit in front of a Windows machine for most of my working day, it was just too much of a faff to learn the foibles of a different OS for use at home. Darren

All non apple laptops have the same problem.

Hardware, software, and programs designed by different companies. Cheers, David

Had multiple HP and Compaq consumer laptops. Think about 6 of them had a dead battery within 1.5 years time. That's utterly crap. On the macbooks I haven't had to replace a single one just yet. Oldest battery is over 4 years old now.

Personally I think Apple stuff, especially when you have multiple items, is the easiest to use, but Microsoft isn't that bad nowadays. Just make sure you buy the right laptop for it. In other words, don't buy cheap consumer garbage...

Apple are by no means immune from this, I'm afraid. For example, trying to get my Blackberry to sync with the Mac OS was a real chore, which was solved by switching to Windows. Darren
