The last photo seems to indicate that the fuel stains around the tank might be coming from what I assume is the two way valve?

Supacat yours appears to be filler neck seal issue?

Filled up myself last weekend and do have a tendancy of filling to the gunnels if heading off somewhere. Diesel being deposited on the forecourt. Had a look underneath and it appeared to be the breather. Cut the last four inches off and this is what was discovered. Could see daylight through the perished end cracks.

think this was a common problem for a while.

tank out to replace mine under warranty. a good time to spray the back of the crossmember.

I also have a very slight leak on the underside where filler goes though body work - no worried about that yet tho.

Well after a 2nd visit to the dealer it was diagnosed as the 2 way valve (ignoring the issue around the inside top of the filler tube) and it was swapped out.

Not pleased with dealer after 1st visit as it was deemed to be an "historical leak" and no further action required. I had to challenge this and ask for evidence that LR used military spec self sealing parts on the fuel system before they they thought better of it and decided to have another go at finding the fault.

It's amazing the rubbish they speak to you, and I assume get away with most of the time.

As thefuel spill is relatively small, I'll clean up around the inside top of the filler tube, check the jubilee clip and look for a re-occurance.

I cut the offending bit off, got a 20mm inline union, three 30mm stainless jubilee clips and nailed it back together. Applied heatshrink over it all to protect the pipe a little from the elements. Pretty much the suggestion below. 15 minute job and change out of £7. Simplest solutions are quite often the best.

Good job Mal, if you really did go the whiole hog it'll go the same again at some point so this fix is probably best.
Mine is looking a bit iffy but not causing me no trouble so I'm not worried about it but I do keep an eye on it.
To my mind it's because the pipe is under stress in that particular section.

Mine is too now. For the life of me I couldn't remember where I bought unions and pipe from locally for when I fitted my Provent. It's an age thing. I suddenly remembered where it was when speaking to Rustyboxx so I'll nip there and get a longer length of 19mm ID hose to relieve the strain. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

you will nearly always get a bit of fuel come out the valve if you fill right up then park up as fuel warms up and expands

think your find the way the valve is fitted is not the best , really the valve should be fitted in upright postion and have a short length of pipe fitted that goes up and over in a loop on the vent side and really a descent height above the tank

like they are on a 90 under the wheel arch

Pipe after initial repair was like guitar string. Bought some 3/4" heavy duty fuel pipe, 3 x 30mm stainless jubilee clips and a pipe union.

Should other end of original pipe go I'll replace the entire length with the woven 3/4" heavy duty pipe. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Need a new pipe on my 2007 but they apparently are out of stock until October! I'll have to have a go at a cut and splice repair. Problem is it's the tank end.

Cheers Munch. I've got some airline pipe. Might try and slice a bit in tomorrow. Not sure how the little breather pipe is attached to it. I'm sure I'll figure it.

With all the talk on the breather pipe , i changed mine ( of course doing it as a prevention ment its was as new Laughing ) , i used a lenght of pipe of ebay , the tank end is a pain , and no way was i dropping tank just to change a pipe , so cut a hole in floor right above pipe joint so easy to get at clip to do up ( doing clip up is hardest bit , pipe if right size goes on ok )

Mines carpeted so hole is under carpet and with a rubber bung in it

least its easy to do again now

I'm just wondering if it's because I always fill right to the very brim, right up so that it's almost and the little holes round the filler hole. Maybe it's not actually a split hose. Maybe I should monitor it for a bit.
