If you are after better fuel economy then probably not much advantage gained with an electric kenlowe over the reliability lost from the viscous fan. With the off road tyes, roof rack, light bar and bolt on extras I have fitted to my Defender, the marginal fuel savings I will make are near to none I reckon - although Kenlowe possibly claim 10% fuel savings!! (Maybe if I didn't drive like I've stolen it I would have a better chance also - maybe come close to 0.1%??)

Nope, biggest load of overhyped 'claims' ever ..... yet 25 years on people still believe they will see a marked difference in mpg and performance Rolling with laughter

Save your money Wink Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

If you want to see the difference in performance an electric fan will make take your existing fan off and go for a drive.(Same principal applies to performance air filters). 2005 Td5 90 XS

i bought my tdci with one in it and you would be surprised to know that it NEVER comes on.

Even on the hard climbs in this recent heat we have had the guage stays bang on the centre mark. The factory radiator is fantastic. I also have the bigger intercooler which will restrict movement around there too. William

Just so that you are aware William8, the temp gauge never moves on my 09 Tdci either. However the Scangauge 2 tells me that the engine temp occasionally gets up to 110C causing the Engine Management to kick in and kill the power. The gauge never moves past the halfway mark. Hopefully your electric fan is thermostatically controlled and setup correctly rather than on a manual switch, otherwise you might eventually do some damage to your vehicle.

Might be worth a check just to make sure it is working correctly and kicking in at the correct/desired temperature.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark i will look into it. Although i do notice you in Dubai? makes a difference and i thought i could at least rely on a land rover thermostat Laughing ah well
Thermostat is factory set at 95 decrees C i tried getting it to come on when i installed it but the needle wouldnt rise and the fan wouldnt come on.

Temp gauge on Puma is driven by the instrument pack and is programmed to display normal (ie it doesn't move) throughout the engine's full normal operating temperature range. It really has very little bearing on the actual temp.

Hi William,

Yes I'm in Dubai and yes it does get a fair bit hotter over here. Even when it's 50+C out here the temp gauge never moves past half, although the actual water temp raises a lot. Are you sure the thermostat opens at 95C? That seems a little hot to me. My engine temp runs at around 86C most of the time which suggests a lower opening temp, but it may be different for the Middle East market.

Either way, you should be able to get your fan to come on by just letting your car idle for long enough, if it doesn't then I would say that you have a problem. You should have a separate temperature sensor for the electric fan somewhere, these normally have some adjustment on them so that you can get the fan to come on at your desired setting or they are set to come on at a per-designated temperature.

Regards,

Mark
