Mine groans too. Always has. Even my old 200Tdi Discovery had the same groan, so I would say its part of the Land Rover ownership experience!

So long as it works, has no big leaks and nothing is obviously wrong, I would ignore it. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Honestly, my Td5 did that when i turned left from new.

If i'm turning the steering when parking, ie low speed, it will groan. but when turning right, it's ok.

another Td5 in the club also did that as well, so i guess it hasn't been giving problems for over 10yrs so i'd say sometimes they are just like that.

Mine does exactly this 2001 Td5 CSW. No signs of fluid leak good fluid levels. No advisories on inspection! Reassured me Thumbs Up 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.

Same here had a td5 discovery with double the mileage of my 110 td5 and both had exactly the same groan. Don't worry about it. 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

My 2011 90 groans when turning left at standstill or under 5 mph. My dads 1983 110v8 never did that and im not sure what it is as its full of fluid. 1953 80"

Another one to consider is the steering damper. The steering was moaning like hell and had (very slowly) been getting worse over the last 12 months.

I noted last week that the steering damper was leaking and when I changed it the groaning / moaning was virtually gone. Must have been the knackered seals in the damper making the noise.
