Intermittant loss of throttle response Puma 2.4
Last week, my 2.4 Puma suddenly lost throttle response in peak hour traffic...

It was driving well, going through the gears from traffic lights. 1st & 2nd as normal, then 3rd gear and backed off with the traffic flow. Reapplying the accelerator and ZERO response. Tickled it several times, and power again. (I'm not sure whether this brought it back to life, or if there was a lag before it corrected.) This was the same pattern until I reached my destination. Which ever gear I eased up in, and reapplied the throttle it would go dead.

There was no engine malfunction light, and when I restarted the engine to head home again after 15 minute stop, all was well. Back to normal again. I had thought it might be the potentiometer (?) thing connected to the accelerator pedal. It's happened once again driving to the LR specialist here, but they could find nothing wrong. Definitely not the fuel filter, or tank breather.

Anyone else had this happen to throw any light on things?

Cheers
Mogboy

Could it be the age old problem of the Tdci reaching 110C and cutting out all power until it cools down again?

Thanks Pope, but I don't think so, as it was running at normal, and only played up when I throttled back, and went to accelerate. I did have the overheat power cut back a few years ago, but nothing like that this time.

Not quite the same, but did have power loss whilst driving - turned out to be a loose relay connection under the drivers seat.

Had LRA check it more than once without it being spotted, so be thorough and tighten all the spade connectors. Barney

Hi Custom90steve
No...the engine was at full operating temperature each time. I've got a 2000km trip through some isolated areas next week, so hopefully if it plays up, I'll still be able to reboot/reset it OK.

Puma owner had the same/similar issue, turned out to be a punctured intercooler hose. --

It sounds very similar to my problem, the relays under the seat had actually started to come out with all the recent vibration.

After re-seating them all I've had no more problems.

New intercooler hoses here, Naks, so pretty sure it's not that.

Thanks Deepdown, I'll check that out for sure. I regularly drive plenty of rough dirt roads.

Sorry to say, I got the same problem yesterday.
Upshifting 3rd, 4th and 5th, acceleration has a "hole" of a second or two before reving up normally.
Happened after 10 minutes of driving in the city and for the rest of the trip.
And nothing during all the following trips.
Happy it has stopped, but I know something is wrong.

Maybe a sticking throttle body?

Or an intake air leak or egr issue

I was told today by my local stealer that my problem comes from the EGR with fault code P1402 and P0403.
Only problem is this codes become normal when you get a remap with EGR electronicaly blocked like I have.
And they offered to replace the EGR (of course!) speaking of a Technical Bulletin 300296 about a new EGR replacing mine!!
Anybody got lights on this Tech Bulletin 300296, as I don't have access to Topix.

Thanks

Intercooler hoses do have a tendancy of chafing on the pulley/flywheel. Still worth a check. Thumbs Up

A few pointers perhaps?

2.2 related but mine was chafed on my 2.4

I don't see how this could be the case if you have a remap that disables the EGR.
