Rattle in transmission tunnel
Well I went out yesterday scoping out a new area to collect firewood. It was pretty steep and I was using 1st 2nd 3rd low range for a part of it. I found when under a bit of load about 1250 rpm I get a rattle from the transmission tunnel area that disappears at 1500 rpm. I'm not being OCD with this one its pretty loud.

Has anybody had this or have any ideas.

have you checked the exhaust manifold heat shield or support bracket isn't loose?

sounds like the clutch, they all do this to a lesser-bigger degree --

Thanks for the replies guys.

I checked all heat shield and drive shaft flange bolts front and rear today, they were fine.

I did find a loose bolt at the front of the seatbox, drivers side against the transmission tunnel which bolts to a bracket on the chassis. This I'm hoping was the culprit.

I also found when the Hi Lo selector is in low range the retaining clip at the bottom of the pivot arm actually contacts a bolt head on top of the transfer case. Not sure if this could make the sound I could hear, though anything's possible.

Well I took the car to a hill (on bitumen near home) tried it in low range and got no rattly noises Very Happy . I can't see that if would be any different off road but will see next week when off road again.

Naks, if it was the clutch would it do it in high range as well ?

Yep, but to a lesser extent. I idle in first when leaving home, it does it only when trying to go over the speed bumps in the driveway, so when it pushes out lots of torque.

Even when I got a new clutch installed, it did this when we went off road. --

Thanks buddy, you were quick.....

I actually have a bit of a steep driveway from the street kerb up into the garage and I normally just ease off the clutch (high range) and let the car idle up the drive in either first or reverse using the anti stall and haven't heard it so hopefully Whistle it won't be the clutch.
