Ladybird Dies In Northern France (Who wants a laugh ??)
Well its not going to well in my world at the moment. I escorted a crane into Wandsworth London Friday morning and promptly got a £110 parking ticket white we were banking the long artic back onto site, it was 07.03 and the red route started at 07.00 i wouldent have minded but we were blocking the whole bloody road with a crane on an artic. Anyway finished that job straight down to Portsmouth got dinner in a pub near the port then boarded the 20.15 Portsmouth to St Marlo Brittany Ferry. a couple of beers crap singer in the bar and bed. Got up down to the car decks waited an age as we were on the top deck and we were one of the last ones off. Anyway off and running and heading all the way South to Gers Region. About 30Km South on a long run down hill at aprox 110km/h there was a distinct cough/sneeze from the engine both me and my mate looked in the mirrors to see if we had run over anything ar anything had dropped off but no ! Temp ok Fuel ok Next secomd as i was looking at the dash the oil light came on imediate clutch in and switched off and rolled onto the hard shoulder. Did the propper French thing hi-vis jackets on run back with triange. Expecting to see a huge puddle of oil under the car very surprised to see every thing dry, unlock bonnet bonnet up dipstick fine plenty of oil, no oil in the water all seamed fine. Fired the engine back up just quickly light still would not go out and the engine sounded like a bag of spanners. Phoned Land Rover European Assistance and they said they would send someone out, 2hrs later phone call recovery can't find us even though we were at a sign posted and numbered junction on a main trunk road. Gave them a gps location and recovery turned up afer another hr, its now nearly 12.30 after the boat landing at 08.15.

We were recovered back to a small Reault garage in a small village by the side of the main road we got there 13.00 ish

We unloaded our bags and the most important stuff that we might need and parked the 90 up in their secure compound. Many phone calls later a hire car was found back in St Marlow and a taxi was despatched for us this took another 3hrs (speedy them French) We got to Avis 17.00 and sorted all the paperwork and were presented with an utter pile of crap 3yr old Hyandiai i30 eco blue, dents and scratches on every panel 60 thou on the clock someone had been smoking in it, it stank but last one there and we were a bit ****** by now.
Jumped in got on with it and thrashed it down the length of France in 7Hrs got to our destination 01.00. one hell of a day i don't want to repeat.
Serviced 2 cranes on Sunday had a nice French lunch and Dinner and fine wine all seamed better.
Drove over to Lyon this morning another 7Hrs and have been told by Land Rover Assistance after many phone calls today that we will drop the hire car back off in Cane and 90 will be recoverd to the port for us to be towed onto the boat and back off at Portsmouth to be met by the AA for recovery back to Matfords at Exeter and hopefully a decent Land Rover hire car from Enterprise.
Watch this space i will update as this goes on.
Ohh i recon the oil pum drive shaft or chain has failed thats my guess. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

To rub salt in the wounds I got back yesterday evening from a 1,000 mile drive around northern France and it didn't miss a beat. I tell you what though, I quickly slowed down from the 130km speed limit after seeing how quickly the diesel runs out! 110km is the way forward!

After reading this I am so glad nothing went wrong! Bow down ===================================

Mine sits very nicely at 110km/h bit of a sweet spot 130 is thrashing for mine as it is so heavy and as you say doubt i would get 200 miles ot of a tank 280-300 at the lower speed. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Hope the 'journey' back is event free and the dealer is able to get it sorted without too much pain. Steve.

Hi NoWorries - Looks like your 90 will be parked up in the next bay to my 110 ... Embarassed
We were off on a canoe trip to North Wales when the clutch went just joining the M5 ... managed to make it off the motorway and got to a safe place to park.
All the gears worked when engine off, but would not engage ....
Recovered to Matfords and they confirmed clutch issues - so spent some time juggling canoes and roofracks onto my partners Disco to toddle back home to sulk! Big Cry

now trying to sort out the logistics for the next week! Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html
Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold
