Big Cry Don't know which seems worse. I'd lose more than the car penalty p.a. if I traded in for a LGV classified Defender though.

Have to get MOT & service done first! Thud Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

They are! Censored for sure. I would rather pay more on fuel & have no road tax being a lower mileage road user, 4000 p.a. max.

Depending on what the service will cost (had big 24000 last year), will determine which tax I can afford, & how many more LRE treks I can go on this season. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Trade it in for a 2.2 Utility. Think mine is 210 a year.....well is so little compared to my 08 that I don't worry enough about knowing exactly how much it is each year Laughing ===================================

It's not Road Tax it's VED

Roads are paid for out of local taxation

Just saying Very Happy

I am similar too also doing low mileage. Although more than you but still low mileage at around 7000 a year. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

The Landy has done nothing wrong, its a good'un. When I bought it the M1 loophole had not been used. I might get an old, cheap low tax one for laning in, that could be cheaper than trade-in loss. I miss my Series 2. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. For me owning a 2008 XS I am paying what tantamounts to a tax that was abolished 170 years ago but was reintroduced in the automotive world!

Big Cry The window tax was a significant social, cultural, and architectural force in the kingdoms of England, Scotland and then Great Britain during the 18th and 19th centuries. Some houses from the period can be seen to have bricked-up window-spaces (ready to be glazed at a later date), as a result of the tax.

Anyone got any mortar and bricks going spare? Laughing

Its the same for a Range Rovers, big Jags and other vehicles that emit high levels of Carbon monoxide.

What I object to is the kack handed way the previous government introduced it, with so many complications then changing some models from a "car" to a "commercial".

I agree with BW, roll on the day they start to have a pay as you go road tax

We already have PAYG road tax, this is called fuel duty. If you don't use it you don't pay.

VED (tax disc) has got f-all to do with roads and use of a vehicle.

How much Shocked Shocked How glad am I that I bought a commercial!! Otherwise I wouldn't be bringing it back at that price.

I need to get my finances in order for the UK..... I am used to paying 170 road tax, 300 insurance and then 1.10 a litre.

Looks like it will be 210 road tax, 400 insurance and then 1.40 a litre.

so at 12,000 miles a year I am currently paying approximately 2500 where on return to the UK it will be in the region of 3200............... That is before spending on modifications too!!!

Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad

Maybe the Defender will have to go.
