Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
Bad experience which started yesterday. Without much preadvise on way home from work gear change started to become difficult, and in a matter of 2 km no more gear selection possible with engine running, so verdict, clutch kaput at 89.000KM. Actually lucky that it happened just outside town yesterday, better than somewhere halfway between Geneva and Entreq in Germany where we were supposed to be heading this morning. That trip and the works there will need to be rescheduled to later this fall.
Within half an hour of calling them, I was towed to temporary safety by our TCS (see pic) as this weekend we have a the visit of www.royal-de-luxe.com with their giant puppets which is drawing 1 million visitors and a total stop of all traffic in and around town. So truck has stayed overnight in that spot, then was winched onto a flatbed truck this morning at 07.00 hrs at which time it still was possible to transit town to drop it at our JLR dealer. Will surely be a new clutch next week, but will decide with dealer what all to change after they open up the truck next week.
Guess also a chance to look at the condition of the engine to gearbox shaft. Or, as my friend Olaf from Entreq Whatsapp'd me, "Die Zwischenwelle Getriebe/Verteilergetriebe unbedingt kontrollieren lassen!!!" Ja, selbstverstndlich doch, Olaf. Laughing

Now that I come think of it, second time on one month that the truck goes on a flatbed. Beginning September also on the french payage after a hose came loose. We should start a thread with Defenders on tow trucks/flatbed trucks. Laughing Laughing

You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

another thread regards drive flange spline rust made me think that I have never checked my front drive flanges, so whipped off the wheels, drivers side rubber cap had a very very small amount of rust powder in it, removed the drive member bolts and cir-clip pulled off the flange and all was good nice snug fit but was dry with evidence of rust starting to form, passenger side was all like new, reassembled both sides with copious amounts of corrosion block grease. All in took 2 hrs but that included some time searching for flange gaskets and the thread lock I knew I had somewhere but couldn't find when I needed DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Jacked the front of mine up on stands ready for some minor work tomorrow.
What lovely weather we have as usual. Rolling Eyes

Maybe it'll dry out by tomorrow who knows otherwise it'll be lying on the ground in the wet probably on soggy cardboard before I know it. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Removed the cubby box and "under cubby box" with all the additional electrics, relays, etc. in order to prepare for the installation of a new upgrade:

Got round to fitting bits I acquired at Peterborough.
Mantec RAI to replace my rusty metal one, nice straight forward fit.
Land Rover/Mantec spare wheel carrier curtesy of Duckworths. Carrier was easy enough to fit, however getting the boost alloy to fit correctly wasnt. Phone call to Duckworths who sent me out the extensions needed for alloy wheels FOC.
Fitted the extensions but then they stuck to far out meaning couldnt tighten up the wheel for Shocked
Another phone call to Duckworths & I was told had the same problem before. The way round it was to take off the large round threaded washer from my old wheel carrier & set them up at the correct depth on the extensions. This I did and it now all fit & works as it should Very Happy
Lastly put on some new rear mud flaps, just cut the old bolts off & used new bolts & washers.
Also recently had new gearbox, clutch, flywheel & all bits to go with it
Got the transfer box on order for fitting next Tuesday.
Hopefully thats enough spent on her for now.
Heres to another 230,000 miles Thumbs Up

Jacked up all four corners one at a time, took wheels off.
Checked brakes, checked tyre's and picked all the grit out and stones.
Little point but isn't the best rubbish to have between treads.

All good thank goodness, was just due a check and that is enough for one day. Laughing Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
