How to remove steering wheel
Can anyone clue me in on how to remove the steering wheel. I removed a giant nut and it still seems to be stuck, is there anything else needed?

also, I need to replace the light switch and unded all the screws on the steering column, and the damn plastic wont come off... presume i do need to remove the steering wheel so i can replace those swicthes?

to top it all off... whilst trying to do all the above, i locked the keys in the car and had to smash the damn window Sad

To remove the wheel undo the centre nut but DO NOT take it off fully.

Then hit the wheel in the 9 and 3 o'clock positions alternately with your hands from the underside. The nut still being attached will stop the wheel from flying off and hitting you in the face when it breaks free.

Just removed mine on the new 90 and actually hit it on the front a couple of times and it broke free.

You should be able to replace the switches with the wheel on but it is easier with it removed.

Bob

YOU DON'T NEED TO REMOVE IT!

From further down in the same thread.

Also there is no need to remove the screw above the parcel shelf with mole grips as this is there only to align up the cowl and is not attached to the bottom cowl which comes off over it.

I also removed the cowl without the need to extract this screw when fitting my barrel lock.

The puller will only work if your steering wheel has the holes for it (ie is one of the ugly ones with the "fake airbag" growth). If it is a flat one, then there are no holes.

As stated above, slacken but don't remove the centre nut, then whack the wheel towards you with both hands simultaneously behind the spokes on each side. When refitting put a smear of copper grease on the splines to facilitate subsequent removal.

If anyone's watching while you remove the wheel and you want to give them a laugh, remove the nut fully beforehand but be aware that the blood from your nose is difficult to clean up from the upholstery!

If I recall correctly, the wheel has to come off to change the dip/main/flasher switch (at least if you follow the manual and don't actually dismantle the switch) but not for the other two.
