Optima bluetop 75 ah goes for R3900. A bit cheaper...ill just have to mount it sideways.

K9F and Leeds are both right.

I had twin 1500 Odyssey, fitted well and did the job but only lasted 4 years. Replaced them with a yellow top and a red top Optima which were virtually the same size as the Odyssey.

Wish I had stayed with Odyssey, although I was disappointed with life span they were much better than the Optima's.

Optima's are now 9 months old and are not holding their charge as well as the Odyssey and they have less CCA's.

When its time to replace them again Ill return to Odyssey. 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

These are all expensive batteries. Don't seem to last that well. My OE battery is now 5 years old & still OK so far, touchwood).

WRT battery size, has anyone fitted batteries in a different place to where they were designed to be e.g. in a boxed part of load space. Less restriction on size & set up, just a bit more wiring needed.

I see Odyssey sell brass terminals for their batteries. Are they better than lead? Also would marine batteries with steel posts be less corrodable? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. So.....if the expensive batteries dont last well one might as well just buy a conventional one......

Yup. A leisure battert with big storage, CCA etc like Numax for 1/3 the price. Worth a try the first time.

I replaced an old leisure battery with one from this lot:

Next day delivery and I specified a 110Ah deep cycle/cranking battery that was lower in body size to the original starter battery and it fits alongside in the battery box, it's a bit snug but it works for me and for £74 was a little easier on the wallet.

AGM: absorbing glass mat. Instead of the plates sitting in a liquid acid bath, they are "wrapped" with a glasmat that contains the gelled liquid. So they can't spill and don't need filling up.

not 100% correct explanation but close.

OK....the deed is done.....

Fitted a Varta start-stop plus 105 amphr AGM in the end.

Same width and height and only 4cm longer. Had to bend the battery tray a bit to accomodate the extra 4 cm, otherwise a flawless fit. 150 more CCA and 15 more Amp hrs.
