Defender Cruise Control The guide they didn't want you 2 see
I have finally cracked how to get my 2001 Td5 Defender with the MSB ECU to have cruise control....

So there are people out there selling their special cruise control units specific to the defender, however this is not true... The box most people use is called the AP900 made by a company called Lite On based in taiwan...

This box is so generic it covers almost every car with a fly by wire throttle system....

The only "special adaptation" that the companies over here have made is a special loom for the throttle pedal.. but that great an all, but when you still have to splice wires into the brake light, speed signal and clutch switch assembly.

So you dont even really need the special loom.

I was lucky enough to purchase my cruise control through ebay for a mere £28 nothing like the £450 odd quid you are always quoted.

As you can see this was from a VW loom but yet it still works on the defender??? funny that>???

I will create a step by step guide tomorrow so that anyone who purchases a generic cruise control system can install it themselves and save a stack load of money...

I have just managed to get it working tonight with no problems!!

It is even much more simple!

Just some wire and switches, and use the build-in cruise control in the ECU.



The plug on top is the black plug on the ECU under the seat.

The pins on the ECU will be connected the following way:
Pin 10 - Ignition +12V
Pin 11 - Switch 1 (Set function)
Pin 15 - ignition +12V
Pin 17 - Switch 2 (Resume function)

Pin 19 - is only mentioned, so you can connect here the available TD5 tachometer, not used for the cruise control.

The cruise control works by supplying ignition +12V to pin 10/15 permanently and the functions are activated by supplying the same temporary to pin 11 or 17.

For getting the ignition switched +12V (Zündplus 15), use the green/white cable at the temperature or fuel gauge in the dash. Put two switches on the dash and run a long cable to the ECU. Cheers, Vincent

^^^^ But isn't this for the later NNN ECU's that had the cruis in-built?

the OP is referring to the earlier MSB ECUs I think.
