V8 Rebuild Part 2
For those who were interested in my original rebuild thread a couple of years ago:

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic5066.html

I thought I'd post an update. Two years down the line the old girl has been fantastic, flown through a couple of MOTs and been very reliable. She's been in regular use as family weekend bus, dog and bikes carrier and twice a year trips up to the Lake District.

Unfortunately in the last year a paint defect has become apparent, with blistering coming through all over the body.

TJC Landrovers were, as ever, fantastic in their response, inspecting the vehicle and immediately accepting it must have been some form of contamination and offering a full strip back and repaint without hesitation. Dropped her off this week, so my lovely shiny 110 currently looks like this Shocked

The roof is off as I am taking the opportunity to get it fully seam-sealed and the sunroof removed and plated over before fitting a new headlining and full set of new Exmoor XS half leather seats too. Should be in good fettle for her 25th birthday and crossing 200,000 miles next year.

Bit of a shock to see her in bits again, but credit where it's due to TJC for their professionalism and ongoing customer service. Fully Restored 89 110 CSW V8

TJC are just "dun the rud" from me...
Nice to hear good things about Terry, as he's had a tough time of late, solely thanks to some thieving scum clearing out his workshop of all his tools Evil or Very Mad

I read the previous thread of what was a VERY comprehensive rebuild.
Your "repairman" must be a REALLY good bloke to do the job He's doing for you, after 2 years...many would simply not want to know you.....a VERY good recommendation for him, I would say.
Just one word, from the land of V8s!!..Have you ever thought of running dual exhausts on your vehicle, ...dual pipes all the way, with the right mufflers, would be music to your ears!
Cheers, Pickles.

@Romadog - I know!

@Pickles - couldn't agree more about how good TJC have been, which is why I am sharing this to give credit where it is due. Every business has a problem now and then, but it's how they respond when they do that counts. Hmmm, twin exhausts - food for thought! Fully Restored 89 110 CSW V8

Definitely food for thought.....from the land of V8s!!
You could run one out each side at the rear, below the crossmember, but probably a neater way would be to have 2 (I would suggest 2" pipes) exiting on the same side as the original exhaust. We had a Ford Bronco (351 Cleveland VCool and that is what we did.
You will love the sound!
Regards, Pickles.

Well, after a few parts related dramas the old girl's home. Shiny new paint, comfy new seats, a toasty bum and no leaks even in the recent biblical downpours. Happy man again, and a great job by TJC.

So, to recap the the rebuild so far:

Genuine 1989 Factory 110 CSW V8
Galv Chassis
New bulkhead, 5 doors and cappings (all thoroughly waxoyled)
Seam sealed roof and sunroof delete
Respray inside and out in Bonatti
Rebuilt axles with vented front disks and rear disk conversion to Salisbury
New springs, dampers and polybushes
New steering box and damper
Rewiring
Stainless exhaust
New interior Exmoor XS & security cubby
New Headlining
New ICE with Alpine MP3/Ipod/Bluetoothheadunit, active sub and 4 new speakers

And a very good security install!

Just the powertrain to go when either funds allow or things go bang. 198k so far on original engine and box, runs sweetly and starts on the button so no hurry, but I do hear that top hat linered 4.6 calling Whistle Fully Restored 89 110 CSW V8

Looks like done a great job there, looks fantastic! I still dream of my old 1985 90 V8, just a shame the chassis resembled Swiss cheese! One day I'd love to get back in a V8

Top Job there, looks like a new one,...maybe better?!
Now come one, what about a set of pipes & a dual wxhaust set up,...one of the best thing about a V8 is "the noise", especially when it's working hard.
Cheers, Pickles.
