Well, Geoff (Tubes) came round for a few bits yesterday, Check over/Oil change, waxoil and the most important thing was the treatment to the X-Member
So first off i completely rubbed down the Member. After treating the really bad areas i keyed up with a smoother grade paper to get a nice smooth finish. I then used red oxide to protect the Xmember from further rusting. After mixing the paint up i then proceeded to coat the xmember up with a original look ( Satin Black ). A nice coating of waxoil and job done Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge CSK Automotive www.cskautomotive.co.uk Like us on Facebook - www.facebook.com/csklr Follow us on Instagram - @cskautomotive Last edited by Killer90 on 23rd Feb 2013 3:13pm. You mean you going to paint it red then? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Looks good. I would have titled it refurbishment rather than repair, I was half expecting to see a DIY guide to rear cross member replacement or rot removal and patching. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Why didn't you take the tow bar off first? Doing it with the tow bar still in place means the crap behind it didn't get sorted? John

When i have refurbed xmembers in the past the first two i ever done i removed the tow bar to find a perfectly new looking bit behind. Were the tow bars are fitted they protect the paint from fading so hence no rust. Is true though in a way but from past experience it has been spot on behind there CSK Automotive www.cskautomotive.co.uk Like us on Facebook - www.facebook.com/csklr Follow us on Instagram - @cskautomotive |
