Put up with what Question an idea, a thought, a name, there is no such thing as a DC100 only a concept.

Please does someone have a link to this piece of (concrete) information that the Americans are saying "no" to the DC100. I think I missed something (more than usual)... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I mean yet. It's put forward as a possible idea & new design. If there isn't much opposition it could quickly become a reality in the future when the time comes. Personally IMHO the idea isn't a bad thing but the actual design I can't stand. It loses it squared off "simple" lines and design and looks more like an alternative to the SWB new Jap Mitsubishi Shogun. All rounded and shapely. Like the Evoque only the Evoque isn't mean't to be a workhorse / off roader so it fits in well but the DC100 doesn't. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Not sure if this is something recent. This very story was already published in either LRO or LRM or both several months ago, so if there is a new article sounds like a rehash.... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Hi there,

Appears in the LRO magazine news under the tittle "America Killed the DC-100" said somewhere "The DC100's failure to excite the off-road market, where Jeep dominates, killed it"
I dont remember exactly when but should be the Nov/Dec 2012 edition...

Cheers

Edited: Was in the January edition...
I dont have the article with me, but not sound good to the DC100 future as it is. Eduardo

At a guess it's got something to do with a desire to re-enter the utility market in the USA esp given the recent high impact and cash flow due to the D4 and RRS? Sounds like a prudent business decision, or should they focus on UK sales instead and keep pushing a niche outdated product with very limited market?

Are you in business?

That's a good analogy to a £30,000 utility vehicle.

Maybe someone can explain something...

Many media articles have been almost surprisingly positive about the vehicle. Few have mentioned that it, well, looks nothing like a Defender, and thus breaks the line, or that it might be missing the basic, rustic appeal of the Defender. Yet forum comments (not just here, but many other forums), Facebook comments, Twitter comments and comments on the actual articles themselves have been overwhelmingly negative. Even the positive comments have stated to liking it for what it is, but that they do not necessarily see it as a Defender replacement.

How exactly does that work? Is the media out of touch with the people, or is something funny going on?

Land Rover seem to be overlooking how the Defender is incredibly loved, even in markets like the US where it's not available. People love how it looks and what it stands for. The ultimate "does what it says on the tin" offroad and overlanding vehicle. What they don't like are the concerns about reliability and some comfort issues. Plus, of course, that it's not available in the US.

The solution, to me, seems pretty obvious. Evolve the design and possibly the mechanics, tweak it so it can be sold in the US, and then market the hell out of it (it's amazing how many people don't even know LR still make them). But simple solutions obviously cannot be right. Right?
