Kenwood HU not retaining settings
Hi,
I fitted a new KDC DAB41U the other day and Im having problems.

It performs well other than one very annoying issue. Every time I switch the cars ignition off I loose all the settings I have previously ( and meticulously Twisted Evil ) been through - Everything goes back to original settings (Balance, Fader etc etc and most annoyingly I loose all my previously stored channels.

Anybody got this model and know what Im doing wrong??

Unit was plug and play, no adapters needed (other than what comes with the HU itself).

Paul

I seem to remember when I installed a different make that there was something in the instructions about reversing a couple of cables in the loom to allow constant power to the right place. That was for another brand of car, but with Kenwood might have something like that.

Assuming you just plugged it in you'd have thought it would be right . but maybe not.

Steve will be along in a minute though Thumbs Up 1989 200tdi 90 csw

+1 sounds like you don't have a permanent live when you turn the ignition off.

+2 It should be okay out of the box though and there should have been nothing that required changing to either the LR or the HU. Are you the first owner of your Defender? Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Either way the issue is there is no permanent battery live only ignition live. The perm live allows the settings to remain stored and the ignition turns it on and allows you to use it. As is at the moment ign on: HU on working fine. Ign off: no power at all 0 nothing. No different to disconnecting the battery.

Guys,
Really appreciate the help - and really speedy too Thumbs Up

I have just swapped the yellow and red wires over and now seem to have permanent live and issue resolved. I'm not the first owner and I know there was an aftermarket HU in before I bought it with the standard LR unit refitted. That worked OK though so it seems to be the Kenwood unit needed the switch over but the LR unit didn't.

Anyway all resolved.

I did also find a helpful piece on the Kenwood site with picture and have linked it http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/suppo...707#ans707 in case somebody else needs it.

Thanks again to everyone who quickly came to my aide.

Well I thought i had solved it but tried again this morning and all the settings have gone again so it appears that turning the ignition off kills permanent live to the HU so im a bit stumped now Sad

Check the fuses that there isn't any blown and then get the Multimeter out and check for voltage or the permanent live. Also worth checking the earth too. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Failing that and everything seems okay then I reckon the HU's got a fault. On the whole they never have an issue. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

An update on progress...

Checked fuses and all OK. Couldn't get the multimeter to read if I had power to perm live when ignition off - probably user error Whistle but having disconnected and then reconnected several times and switching the yellow and red wires back to original setting its now magically resolved. I can only assume that there was a poor connection at the perm live pin or the bullet connectors on the Kenwood loom were not fully home when I first installed the HU Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, its now working properly and the sound is pretty good. At last I have DAB and iPod in the 90 Mr. Green

Might tackle the speakers at a later date, although with standard OEM rears already in its not too bad overall. I know there are lots of threads on the forum about speakers so hopefully wont trouble anyone further.

Thanks for your help guys Bow down
