back to basics
sorry ....same old again.

to me this is obvious (obviously wrong that is) but I'm not a hardened / experienced landy owner so please bear with me.

removing the differences you'd expect between and warm and cold engine if you were to pull off and leave the revs at say 2000 rpm in 1st gear I presume you'd expect to hear the same noise each (assuming flat road / load on engine) ?

yes / no / may be ?

If I understand the question right, then yes I would expect the same noise if on the same road, same gear, same engine load, same temperature each time!

My diesels are much noisier when cold...lots of clatter till they get up to temperature (Volvo D5 and Puma)...

Better in summer, worse in winter

When warm, no difference... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

hmmmm, dont know

As the ECU is measuring barometric pressure, and air temp i suppose its doing something with it, eg adapting fuel mapping, turbo ? sure the mappers can enlighten us.

Another thing is the drive by wire accelerator, is it self-learning? probably not but eg my merc learns my driving style and adapts to it (so from lazy to sporty behaviour depending on how fast and deep i press the gas pedal, then its adapting this till it sees i am canceling the input faster than expected and will tune down the temper again)

just mentioning, but generally the answer to your question should be yes i guess

"you'd expect to hear the same noise each?"

Not sure of the question? Are you asking the noise from the engine or gearbox/drivetrain and engine?

If the air conditions, engine conditions and fuel conditions are the same each run then yes it would make the same sound. But as previously stated there are so many variables - air temperature, air density, air moisture, engine temps, exhaust temps etc etc there will always be differences. Plus unless you recorded each run the sound would be difficult to differentiate between (your ear's play tricks).

Worth checking to see if your engine lifting eye bracket isn't loose. Mine made a terrible rattling sound on start up. Pimped black '07 Puma

Cosh you are lucky, had a D3 just gone back end of lease, on the dealers up her you don't even get a LR let alone a FFRR. Sad Live Life Ti'l You Die

The FFRR is off enterprise via LR and not one of the dealers....

any how would appear they're getting ready to dismantle the tranfer box for the 4th time !!!

its leaking oil but no one seems to know from where. LR technical guy is turning up for the 3rd time ......

just hope they get it all back together before the warranty runs out cos I'm worried they'll leave me to put it back together and charge me storeage if I don't hurry up.

should know more later but suspect its going to be a new g box and hopefully transfer box too !

Sad
