You might find that they are best removed carefully with pliers due to access but fit them just with your fingers.
You just can't get hold of them to get them out easy with fingers.

As a previous post suggests here, a straw may work well too.

But I used needle nose pliers with great success, just go easy with them as the bulbs are glass.

Did we find out if the 2.2 puma was using LED?

One idea for fitting LED is to sand down the end of the LED so the light is thrown out and not so directional.

No one has confirmed that I'm aware of?
I thought I heard rumour it was just the I instrument cluster or something along those lines!

I've got a few bulbs to replace.
I suspect the one behind fan speed is shot. If I turn the fan onto speed 1 no light, speed 2 no light, speed 3 and it lights up.....I can then move the slider back to speed 1 and it stays on Rolling Eyes

also does the hazard warning lights switch illuminate - mine doesn't but I seem to recall it used to ?

if so where the light / lamp for that?

thanks,

I think the hazard light needs replacing as a unit, IIRC there is an in-built LED but I may be wrong.

Most of the bulbs are okay and quite easy to get at for the rest. Thumbs Up Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

The hazard switch has a bulb, so switch does not need to be replaced as an entire unit. There is a older thread about it on here which you can try to search. Sorry, can't look it up right now.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Reviving this as I need to replace the bulbs in the center console, I'm presuming that the parts numbers are still current? If so, I'll be needing 5 of them for the center console cluster? What about the ring around the lighter socket, that has a light behind it too, right? If there is a light behind there somewhere, how does one go about replacing it? I tried looking for threads on that and found none.

Thanks!

I have a feeling the lighter socket has a captive bulb, I could be wrong though.
Personally I’m happy with my BlueSea12v socket. Without lighting. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Hi custom90steve,

As much as I'd like to change that out to BlueSea USB sockets, I still need the lighter type socket for some accessories that I use though I'm planning to strategically place a remote socket closer to the accessories in question to make things a bit simpler and to eliminate the various wires crisscrossing in the cockpit.

So better to replace the entire lighter socket then?

Confirming 5 bulbs for the center console sans lighter socket, correct?

Well, the time has come where a few centre dash bulbs have gone again. Rolling Eyes

Reading though my thread again, I can't remember how many bulbs there was any more.
I think it was 6 total, looking back at Blackwolfs post.
I should have counted myself too at the time and reported back.

As some time has gone by, has anyone had any success with SMD LED's? Perhaps the patchy light output is no longer an issue.
Anyone have any views on this?

Luckily the centre dash coming out I'm doing anyway soon, so not a concern but bloomin annoying all the same. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

I know its an old thread, but can the knobs be removed easily on the heater panel, Santa brought me the optimall knobs, the headlight adjustment one is fine, but the header ones dont want to pull off from what I can see and not seen any guide on the internet. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details
