Help! Doors unlock then re-lock straight away
OK – not used my Puma since Monday (when, surprisingly the warranty expired! ) . So this morning I press the ‘unlock’ option on my key fob and the doors unlock, then instantly re-lock themselves. This happened every time I tried the fob, the car would unlock, then instantly re-lock itself? I have had to come to work, so not had much time to fiddle around with it. The only difference from a ‘normal’ day is that there was a hard frost last night, but only down to -3 ish, nothing extreme. I have only tried my fob and not the spare at the moment too.
I called in at the main stealer on the way in to work to ask them, and they suggested water had got into a lock, and frozen, but surely this would not affect all three locks – ie both front doors (it’s a 90) and the rear door?
Any ideas anyone please? Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Going slightly OT

Puma 90, front doors unlock on key fob but have to unlock rear door on key.

Puma 110, all doors unlock on key fob.

So should 90 rear door unlock on key fob as well?

This is not temperature related.

The solenoid on the drivers door is not achieving its' full travel and so, for want of a better description, is bouncing back to the locked position. It affects all doors because the drivers door one is the master for the system.

The reason it's not achieving full travel in the cold weather is almost certainly because the grease applied to the mechanism has become very thick and is generating too much resistance to the movement. Strip, clean and re-lubricate with something like white grease. Darren

May not be as daft as it sounds. It is a Land Rover after all!

However I am convinced it locks ok on the fob. It is not here so I will have to check later.

A one way solenoid???

The drivers door solenoid will have frozen and as the drivers door lock unlocks the rest (as in when you lock it with the key) it will be telling the rest of the locks to close. Plenty of wd40 after it all thaws out!

Edit: got beaten too it because someone came to the door Mr. Green

Brendan,My 90 does the same as yours all 3 doors lock on the fob but only the front 2 unlock on the fob.I beleive this is down to a defective rear door solenoid as have had similar issues with discoveries at work, the solenoid is,nt very expensive but i have decided to leave mine as it is as i quite like the idea that the back door stays locked unless i have purposely unlocked it. 2005 Td5 90 XS

It may well be just adjustment that is required on the rear door solenoid.

It's probably moving / responding to the fob but isn't 'throwing' the lock quite far enough

When you fit the rear door holding open thingy you can check Mr. Green

Thanks for tall the replys - looks like a pretty easy fix. I was imagining all sorts of fancy ecu's needing to be replace, and just as soon as the warranty had run out too! Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

In our case the 90 is going into the main dealers on Monday as have water ingress into drivers footwell.

So they can sort it out! Razz

Hope you do not mind me sharing the thread Strang but it seemed simpler to do that then start a new thread!

Yes it will be going to Copleys. They appear to be friendlier then Farnells. However their offers of collection or dropping driver off seems to be shall we say a bit poor/erratic. However they do appear to be helpful enough.

That's because the solenoid will have thawed like I said earlier. Get some wd40 sprayed on it now and it shouldn't happen again Smile

I know it's a long shot but on the mrs polo you blip the fob once to open the drivers door and a second time to unlock both doors. Maybe if you blip the fob twice the rear door will unlock. I know it's a Landrover and unlikely but I thought worth a try maybe?
