Another thing to consider if you insure with NFU.

I have just insured the new 90, even though it is not built yet it is having a private plate put on so I was able to get this sorted now.

NFU cover you for FULL replacement with a new vehicle for two years if yours is stolen or written off.

The higher premium I pay at NFU was actually less than other insurers (who only gave a new replacement for one year) plus a second year GAP insurance.

Sometimes it pays to read the small print - well actually the nice lady at my local NFU office pointed it out to me Thumbs Up

I switched to the them last year for the 110, they were about half the cost of AF.

Then when the house insurance came up for renewal, we live in rather unique grade 2 listed building, their quote was half the 4 digit renewal from a well known bank, so it was a no brainer to switch.

Same thing with the contents.

Maybe it depends on your local office, but out here in the sticks where a vast number of people are connected with farming in one way or another they certainly appear to be the best. Also helps when you can pop into their office and talk to a real person Thumbs Up

I've been with NFU Mutual since May 1984 for the farm and vehicles then the house! They even insured my rallycars.

A few years ago I had a house claim when the rising main burst (1998) causing 10k of damage to the living room and hall, no claim forms and they chose the highest quote and then added to it during the repairs. You can't get much better than that for service!

I left NFU a few years ago when they started vastly increasing insurance premiums. Mine jumped from £250 to about £600 for no apparent reason.

There's hope then. We left NFU this year as the premiums had increased 70% in three years. We were able to get comparable cover elsewhere for 40% of their renewal invite in April.

I'm happy to pay a premium for their service and cover, but not that much! The local office reckoned they had lost 2/3rds of their business in the past 18 months and that something had to give.

I am currently looking at purchasing a Defender and have obtained a number of quotes. I used NFU years ago for my Land Rovers as they were competitive and easy to deal with.

The quotes I have had in the last week were £400 - £500 more than the cheapest quotes!

I've kept my Defender 90 (with declared mods) with NFU and premium is £250. However, my Disco4 was over £600 with them, so I moved it to Aviva for less than £250. I initially had the D4 with NFU because of the first 2yr replacement clause.

I have used NFU for over 20 years and found the service to be great, especially having to claim for a stolen Defender many years ago.

I'm always worried about these cheaper policies, available via brokers, when it comes to claims. I'd like to hear feedback on claims process as well as premium cost. Would be an interesting table to compile.

Cheers

Simon
