ok, dont panic, these engines are a bit noisy and you'll find a lot of info here on it.
BUT with my experiences of last year. see http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic10481.html get your top end checked. I was unaware driving with one valve closed for 10K km and thought the ticking was normal. No noticeable loss in performance. Will cost you nothing compared to a repair bill when things do go wrong. 2cents |

So, the Egr was faulty and has been replaced, the injectors have been checked and locations changed and the fault is still present. Not good I think!

I would ask them to take of the rocker cover, takes half an hour.
After talking to some people i was made aware of other (although not common) cases having rockers failing. No clear explanation of cause (over revving one of them) and damage report depending on luck from scrapped engine to repairable as mine. You might also want to compare your sound to another puma. If you would have a stuck valve you will also notice it in performance, if you can compare. fingers crossed. PS: although fuel additives will make the engine more quite they wont rule out the defect. I was happily driving with additives thinking all was ok as it was much quieter with the additive. |

You say 57 plate but search this forum for issues with oil jets on early engines and then check the engine number against the range listed. Steve.

So, just picked the Rover up from Gott's and all is good. It would seem that one of the injectors was out and a reset has cured it all. V Quiet & Plenty Go!
Happy days and may I thank you all for comments/suggestions. S |
