Shocked Why is that then Question because they're never out of the dealers. Or they break down when 'water' is mentioned. Or they throw a diff when you mention the word FORD

Was speaking to mantec earlier today, ordering some bits, including a wading kit,, they have been told new 07 Defenders do not require wading kits, and that it has been confirmed by Land Rover Rolling Eyes

so you tell me,,

Andrew, have you fitted some breathers ?? Question California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

No I have not. There are breather pipes fitted to the axles the same as a TD5 Defender so I presume from your info they must be better quality on the New Defender.......The only thing that is Rolling Eyes

A mail from Mantec, when i asked the question Question

Quote:
Yes, we thought so too, we do not have any written confirmation from Land Rover. However, we manufacture the items for Land Rover (ie/ their accessory range & G4 Challenge) and the wading kit is one item that we has been confirmed that is not required for the 07’s.

I kind of think if your going into water above 2 ft then a wading kit might be useful full stop, regardless of what LR say.

Why would the new Defenfer be any different to the Td5? The gearbox is in a different position (further back as is the rear axle) but the axles are the same hight and roughty in the same position and both need a breather - dont they?

Or are we just talking about the engine? If so why did I see a 90 Hard top in a dealer showroom with a snorkle on it?

Russell.

From reading comments on various forums I guess the reason could be improved breathers fitted as standard and properly waterproofed electronics.

I wouldn't think that they are saying you don't need a snorkel though.

The Red Dwarf will be up on the hoist today I will have a look and report back. I also have a TD5 defender in the workshop so I will compare the two.

OK so I have compared the new 07my axle breathers with the TD5......They are identical apart from the colour of the cable ties that hold the pipes to the vehicle. The TD5 has white/clear ones the 07MY has black ones.

Maybe they are not making 07my wading kits because the TD5 one will fit Question

So if the breathers are the same as the Td5, then they still need a wading kit which presumably will be the same as the Td5, but I understand the engine air intake is completely different to the Td5.

Chaps at Cheviot 4x4 have been trying to fit a Safari Snorkel for me and the airbox and piping etc is completely different - I know LR offer a Mantec snorkel but these in my opinion are not as good as the safari type especially if you are going to chip/re-map the engine etc so maybe the chaps that make the safari ones could get onto the case and offer some piping etc?

Any suggestions?

Russell.

The existing Safari RAI is not designed if fit the 07 Defender. Just wondering why the Mantec is not as good as the Safari when it comes to tuning Question
