Puma Headlamp Bulbs
Apologies if this is generally know, but having read on this forum about brighter headlights I took the plunge and ordered a pair of brighter H7 bulbs on e-bay. The bulb spec in the handbook for my 08 110 does say that H7 is the correct one. Wrong, unfortunately. The H7 has two locating lugs, and the correct bulb, an H4, has three. The local indie, Steve Hill in Bristol, confirmed that the H4 is the right one. Rang LR after speaking to the local main dealer and they confirmed this is a misprint in the handbook. Awaiting their callback, as I'm obviously out of pocket with two bulbs which are no good for purpose. I think LR will supply a pair of replacements. We shall see, but don't fall into the same trap I did. LR say the misprint is corrected in later handbooks. Ian One wife - livid

I have heard of this before too. However luckily for me I was and have been for a long while a user on here so bought the H4. But your right if it's a miss print it isn't your fault and LR should certainly swap for you being their error out of good will I'd have thought. Make sure you get a fair swap for your uprated ones to or they might if they do give you H4's try and get away with giving you standard ones worth about 2 - 3

Unbelievable how they could screw that up Rolling Eyes
LR should send you a free meerkat toy as well...

p.s. forgot to mention, a couple of weeks ago I bought H4 bulbs for my Audi (H7) - but that was just my own stupidity Laughing Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

It is a worthwhile upgrade though certainly. Much crisper whit I find with the Philips Extreme I have. Swapped over to Crystals too while at it. Oh and SS bezels too. All in all great. Very Happy Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

LR themselves these days are offering an upgraded H4 bulb as original accessory. Make sure you get those from them. The difference is very significant. The part number is VPLDV0061. They call them Xenon upgrade kit, but that is a lot of crap. In reality they are a standard wattage (55/60W) H4 bulb with filaments but filled with Xenon gas (so they say). For standard headlamps which take H4 it is a very good upgrade at marginal cost. Before I switched to LEDs I had them in my SVX and the light is brighter, whiter, with a very good spread. You can see the accessory offer on below link of LR UK website Thumbs Up

Hi Keith,
No issues with too much heat generated by the PIAA extreme?
Cheers

NO issues mate, had them for 6 yrs on the 110 cheep headlight units that LR supply . Now however on my new 2.2 110 i have upgraded my headlight units to 7 inch HELLA headlamps which are SUPERIOR quality and lens and have a sidelight bulb holder also . This headlight with the 10w sidelight and the PIAA extreme white is AWSUM - oh yeh and none of that blue/red/green/purple colours that are on most modern headlight bulbs , just sharp clear white .

Thanks Keith,
I think I will go that way, too, then. Even though they are a bit of a shock at 50 quid the piece. Have you got any more info on the Hellas? Are they a straight fit? I have the clear lens conversion from Nakatanenga installed. Don't know how durable they are, but if the cheapo Landy lights survived the extra heat they should be fine.
Cheers
Boris

Im sure there have been a few good things come out of Germany ( my dishwasher for one , if your ever needing to clean your engine parts then its a MEILE ) But HELLA lamps are surelly the finest , i have 10 Hella lamps on my defender and have always used them . You will find your PIAA bulbs for about 70 for the pair , expensive yes but superior . Id post some pics but i still dont know how to upload pics to the forum . Yes the headlights are straight fit using the same 3 screw fixings on the vehicle . - oh yeh and my 1972 SAS lightweight , it now resides in Germany with the new owner driving it back all the way from Scotland .

Yes, pics (or exact type or part number for the Hellas) would be nice, sounds like an interesting bit of kit. I have two Hella spots on my roofrack and they are very well made. Mieles are also nice bits of kit (my mom's washing machine is in its 40ies), but German wives (at least mine) don't really fancy that side of male inventiveness that is directed at their household appliances, I'm afraid Whistle

Drove a 1960 Series 2 softtop back to Germany about 10 years ago. In mid-December. I had to wear my skiing gear and the lorries coming up at me and the little Landy doing 50 mph at two in the morning were quite a thrill, but we managed. Old Landies - great cars!

Just to close this one off LR supplied a pair of extra bright H4s and Guy Salmon in Bristol fitted them yesterday free of charge and valeted the vehicle. Good service all round going beyond where they had to go. And they are very much brighter. Than the originals. Ian One wife - livid

Just found on ebay General Electric Megalight Ultra +120% bulbs. GE claims that their bulbs are "the highest performance of all regulatory approved halogen automotive lamps". Any feedback?
