Land Rover 4th Year Warranty
Can anyone explain to me why I should spend £672 on a 4th year warranty for my Puma. Not convinced. Confused BM52

Going on my own experiences with warranty claims, I'd be extremely hesitant in parting with that amount, only to have the usual bovine excrement response if and when you actually try to claim..

£672 will buy a decent socket set, torque wrench, loads of hand tools and a HUGE tube of silicone sealant for any jobs you may have to do!! ... ,-------,

K9F - thanks for the link, i thought i had seen one before but couldn't find it.

Shax - i have a pretty well equipped garage, i have spent years working on all sorts of vehicles for home servicing repairs.

I am comfortable servicing, repairing most things. It's the big items such a gear boxes, diffs i am concerned with along with any complicated engine issues.

But seeing as many Defenders on here do huge mileages and we don't hear too many horror stories I am in 2 minds, probably 60/40 against as £672 will buy a lot and if i don't spend it on repairs it will cover next years tax and insurance. BM52

faced a simular decision with the BM when it was 4 and had simular quotes from BM and warranty direct, interestingly warranty direct then contacted me and the quote was virtually 1/2 the original quote , I ended up buying the warranty but there are lots of small print clauses that devalue it. In the case of the landy which is relatively easy to work on and has this fantastic forum supporting it I wont be getting an extended warranty but will make sure I have good break down cover that gets me home from wherever I am DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

The disco has had 2 new differentials, a fuse board, new ignition...

I think it's worth it.

When I had my D3 3rd year LR then 4th with Warranty Direct (IMHO better than the LR 4th year LR one). Saved more than the premium costs in repairs, and no way was I going to keep it without a warranty. Remember it's a Land Rover it will go wrong Laughing 993 Varioram - Guards Red

My previous Defender I paid the grand total of £250 in 4 years post warranty other than servicing, so I would say extended warranty a complete waste of money, the only thing I can think of is a new engine that would make it worthwhile.

We are talking Defenders here - not Disco's that surely have more things to go wrong? Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

agree - after warranty expires it's time to start exploring the wonderful world of indies. There is so much support available for these vehicles. OK the engines/gearboxes may be new but the underpinnings are as old as the hills.
