Guys, interesting discussion. I notice in the article it relates to range rovers and 110s. Is this the same for 90s?

Yes, all RRC/Disco 1/90/110/Defender up to and including Td5 have a front prop out of phase.

With Tdci onwards I believe it changed due to the drivetrain inclination required to bodge the Transit engine in. Not sure what the effect was but I suspect it may mean both props are out of phase?

That article is wrong in its assertion that the out of phase front props are not mentioned in the workshop manual, seems pretty clear here:

Just checked and my ones were in phase. Pulled the prop off and replaced a UJ as it had a small amount of play. One thing though, there are no alignment marks. Are thexpected joints 90 deg out off phase or a small amount as described in the article?

Did a check on the web through Google images and looks like its 45% out of phase so set it to that. Going to give it a run tomorrow to see if it sorts the issue.

Just to provide an update. The change made some difference but it was still not 100% perfect. A few months later I swapped the front prop for a Discovery double cardon one and it made the world of difference. Would recommend this mod to anyone.
