Afrispoor / Globemaster Fittting Out

Well we have started fitting out the Globemaster. Not that is needed much doing having had a recent re spray.

Things on the list are:
waterproof storage cover
240 v electrics.
battery charger
fitting out bedroom storage
new kitchen
led lighting

The cover has been ordered and hopefully we shall have it soon given that the weather has turned. I went to Specialised Car Covers (£450+vat) Master Covers (£320+vat) Trek Overland (£?) and Just Group (£220). So I have done a drawing for the cheaper version and we shall see how it turns out.

Being a hobby woodworker i am going for a joinery fit out along the lines of these sketches

I have started with the bedroom store, which will basically be four drawers on self closing runners with a storage slot on one side. On the other will be further 240v power distribution for all those things that need charging.
I had some ash left over from a workbench project (www.handmadeboxes.co.uk) and some reclaimed oak for the fronts. (not the cherry you see in the bottom picture due to router operator error resulting in a nice pile of fire wood)

The carcass will be marine ply edged with walnut. I have considered chopping some holes in the carcass to keep the weight down but I have not come to a conclusion yet.

Hopefully the drawers will be done this weekend and i will just need to get on and finish them with a decent varnish.

Now looking at jason's build has given my another Idea - Damn. just as things were going so well.

How about a pull out kitchen to come out of the door behind the fridge unit. On ours this is a particularly poorly thought out area so i will have a measure and see if we cant get a sink small enough to do the job.

The perfect L shaped kitchen, if it works. All we need now is a bit of Nigelissima!

any one any better ideas?

Top quality work, I am very jealous of your workshop and standard of work.

As you have seen my build the kitchen pull out started in marine ply but I found that was both heavy and did swell in heavy rain conditions, in the end I had it fabricated in Ali and am really glad I did as it works very well now.

Difficult to write the next statement without it sounding rude but here goes!

I don't know how much width you have but I have seen a fair few builds that have a double slider go give you some extra length!!

Before you start it's also worth taking a couple of hours and reading this thread

Any idea what the answer to the registration question is on the expedition portal site as I was trying to register.

What is the most famous overland magazine in the US?

Good question I ask myself. Not a clue. I clearly don't get out enough.

Have now answered it myself as they advertise expedition journal on the site of course. Never read it but it sounds interesting

I didn't know you had to go anywhere. Thought it was all about trailer pimping.

Seriously though the idea this year will be trips sea kayaking around the south welsh coast and possibly a 3 weaker to Norway later in the year.

Yup. OJ is an OUTSTANDING Overlanding magazine - most likely the single best out there, partcularly the reivews. A little pricy and come out quarterly but nice! I study and refer to the back issues all the time.

This Weekend

I managed to get the drawers finished only after minor upsets involving routers.
The drawer slides are installed - the self closing type so the drawers should stay shut, although i need to find out how to adjust them so they are not quite so strong.

I am gong to need to take the door off the trailer to get the unit installed once it is finished as the opening in the trailer is not quite square and of course muggins measured the smaller dimensions. Hey ho, live and learn.

I was doing a demo at Axminster tools a couple of weekends ago and the nice man from Liberon gave me some extreme varnish to try. Now given that i has got the word extreme in the title there is no option but to give it a go.

Now with regard to the pull out sink unit we have discussed this at the weekend and are going along the lines of a sink and single burner for the morning coffees etc and will retain a twin ring burner that we can set up wherever for alfresco cooking.

This is the one that i am looking at as we only have a width of 350mm to play with. I think they also do a square version which might be a bit bigger and still fit.

I will get on to Haffele to see if we can get a 900 mm full extension runner, mock it up in ply and then get it fabricated in stainless or ali.

The nice Hafele man says that 422.22.900 is the part number for the heavy duty runners if anyone needs one.

where can you get these

I have asked the question of `trek overland, i have asked the question of Afrispoor.
no answer

Does anyone know where i can get some of these rubber thingys that have a male and female part that clip together
