but the only conclusion can be that the spacers are not the same density of metal throughout each one????

Are they all machined square and fitted the hub ok, only other thing did you mark the stud to the wheel ? the balance could now be out because the wheels are now off set to there original centre line. 2.4 90 XS

Check the fronts are balanced correctly. I have had a similar issue with the 18" Mach5 wheels. They have an offset similar to fitting spacers. I simply get the ATS guys to check the fronts if they are out all the weights get removed and they start fresh.
Fitting spacers or off set wheels exasperate small play or balance issues. |

I've got 30mm spacers on my Td5 110 (and had them on my old 110 too)
They do cause any wheel wobble to be amplified through the steering wheel. First thing to check is your panhard rod bushes, any duff bush will get shown up by the spacers. Then check your swivel hubs too (jack the wheel up and grab it at 12:00 and 6:00 and try to wiggle it) |

Thanks guys, will check what you suggested although went out again this evening and wobble was only slight so don't know what's happening there
 Checked bolt tightness and all was well. |

have you got aftermarket wheels? just had a similar problem with my svx, having spoke with JE Eng, they inform me, that some aftermarket whhels are made with a slightly bigger whole in the midle, so you have to make sure you get the wheels on square. they are making me a set of sleeves to ensure this happens. worth a thought. Thanks KlJW the wheels are genuine but as the spacers are fitted then there is no lip to go over although the wheels are lined up correctly.

following on from my last post, my wheel wobble is still there, although allot better since i have tpourqued the wheels nuts up to the correct loading. keep us posted on how you get on with this, what ever resolves your issues, may help with mine. Cheers keith puer claudius |

Well it has settled to just a slight (and I mean slight) wobble at around 55-65mph. I have done no more about it. Lately been doing lots of short trips where I have been around town so not been faster than about 40mph ish. I will have to get the wheels at the front checked for balance I think.

You would be better off getting the wheels bal'd on the car so that the hubs are bal'd as well, but I think you will need to remove the half shafts. that is a nuisance at a tyre place. 2.4 90 XS

mmmm maybe first step is get wheels balanced conventionally first and refit. If still wobbles then will look into it further. As I said though it really is very very slight now. Probably like a lot of people have as they have adjusted to it?

Hi Just a thought, as you know the wheel 'footprint' should be under an extended line through the 'kingpin', (yes I know there is no kingpin on a 4wd, imaginary line through the top and bottom swivels) you have moved the footprint outboard so this no longer applies if the 'wobble' persists have your steering geometry checked, particularly the 'toe in'.

Thanks everyone, thanks Ian. I have kept my rear spacers on but removed my fronts and wobble gone. I had the front wheels balanced and the wobble was reduced but still there at around 55mph but smooth at all other speeds. I would like to keep them on but don't want to create stress on other components and the wobble spoils the drive.

what age car?
have you got bigger wheels.....have you thought to check your swivel preload. I had horrific wobble on my disco with not that much of a wheel size increase...but when checked I had less than a lb on them 
with the swivel preload being out it also made my RTC damper work over time which also  that as well so the other thing to check if it has a bit of age on it is your sterring damper
once my damper and preloads where done car drives great all the way up to 120k without the shakes YOU KNOW REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS!!!! |
