It can't be seen when the seats are up so I'm not bothered about trimming it in carpet.

It's only got an internal depth of 4 inches so not that big at all. I spent a couple hours working out the sizes so it would fit perfectly. Has an internal volume of 0.5 cubic feet. Which is the perfect size for frequency response of the sub, which in turn equals a good sounding bass.

That's just a bit smaller than my cubby @ approx 0.68 CuFt.

Mine is an 8" too, you'll never get huge bass from them due to the size but you can get some good punch out of on though.
A LOT more than from an active sub, passive is much more powerful for obvious reasons.
The downside is the Defender is a sod to find enough room for anything much larger.
A 10" might just but you'd need to pull quite an enclosure feat to do that.
They need to be mounted very solid too of which the cubby isn't the best seeing as it's basically just a metal plate. Confused

The shallow mount pioneer 10inch only requires a minimum of 0.7 cubic feet. So your box with a bit of poly fill would work well.

I will probably end up dynamatting the internal of the cubby and carpeting as sure it will rattle.

My amp is a bit over kill but I couldn't resist it Focal 1.800 400w ( which is the max the sub can take, I always like to over power a sub rather than under power! Just have to keep it turned down a bit.

I did give the Polyfil a go, but recently removed it as I took it out anyway. Find it's much better without now.

Yeah I'm just using an ancient amp I've had in the garage for years. It's on my list of things to buy!

I'm sure it'll sound much better with a proper amp!

Decisions decisions Banging Head Banging Head Oh what to do with the new workhorse Rolling Eyes Cant decide what to do sub wise....... I was all for a custom cubby and using my old 5 channel alpine amp But that would require a new head unit also (need 3 pre outs ) Rolling Eyes .....Or just fit an active sub after all we go everywhere in the TD5 ! Im not that impressed with the BT on the standard 133 headunit, seems to take forever to sync, and always have to use the phone to start it ?!?!? is this standard ???

Steve ?? Ideas ??

Not sure whether it is standard but mine does exactly the same - I always force the iPhone to connect because if I wait for the Alpine to pair with the phone, I'll have arrived at the destination before it does!

I keep reading about the Alpine CDE-178BT being a direct swap out but I'd want to know that the BT in it is more 'active' and actually pairs asymptomatically; otherwise, I'm not sure I'm gaining enough to swap out the stock headunit.

Jim - Couldn't you use splitters?
Syncing wise, even though my kvt 729 is technically out of date andBT unit is stand alone it pairs with phones or devices once in range straight away after HU has started up.
So long as it's paired and linked it works perfectly every time do long as phone BT is on.
Even with iPad, although you do need to use iPad to change music where as a wired connection to my old nano iPad which I still use is 'direct control' from HU.

As I've said before, I know it sounds biased and I have no real reason to be but I can't stand Alpine.
There is often problems with it and the general feel and quality looks cheap to me.

Big problem though, it is not cheap far from it!

Downside with KW at the moment is there is limited 1DIN multimedia solutions anymore.
They are focusing purely on the 2DIN route..

Tried a mates double din alpine unit..... exactly the same Rolling Eyes It starts up syncs and then you press play on his Ipod. With my other Alpine head unit, its hard wired and works straight of.......... so much for advancements in technology Whistle

Regards splitters sSteve, yes they will work, but you'll loose all control, ie balance/fader/sub and the SQ will be poor due to the RCAs voltage being dropped !!! Only way around that is an inline driver/equalizer, more expense !! I'm considering an Alpine SWE-815, Active sub amazing value at under £100. I only use the new one for work, so having that in the back won't matter if something falls on it !!

Yeah, I know the expense that's why I mentioned it.

Adding an equaliser is fine but it makes it even more complicated. You'll never finish tweaking it. Rolling with laughter
Then again we as Landy drivers are well used to that!
