do the batts not fit in without the extra tray anyway? its only a plate across the bottom. just buy the genuine longer top cross piece to enable the clamp to go over both batts and save some money. Cheers

There's a lot of bad press about Optimas at the moment on the U.S sites.
I've just fitted a Devon 4x4 Puma specific battery tray and fitted twin Odyssey Pc1500 batteries, which are in my opinion as good as any other out there, to a Puma 110 If you get the Pc 1500dt(double terminal) batteries, you will find that they won't fit in the tray properly without 'trimming' the bottom of the battery. Go for the pc1500 if you don't want mod them....easy to mod with a flap wheel or grinder. I extended the original earth lead as I put the -terminals under the seat box, to avoid any 'danger'.... I have been just looking at the PC1500DT as i have an account with Allmakes and this is the only one they do.
How much did you have to trim ? The lower edge of the battery, that a normal clamp, clamps to. You have to trim one side off each battery.... 30 seconds work. I have all makes account too, hence mod

Devon had PC1500's for £200 each about a month ago and they make excellent double battery trays , no messing about with a grinder, just pop the OEM battery out, and fit the D44 unit, fit the batteries and the controller and let the fun begin

Try Numax, loads of options there. i run 4 in the tray back, 2 on 12v , 2 for 24v and 2 in the truck cab. last a long time, about £75 each for 95Ah, 1000CCA. they have stud terminals as well as std. Cheers

Just go down to your local truck/agricultural factors (or even a good auto factors) and buy the biggest battery that will fit in there. That's what I did, got a couple of huge things for about £75 each. Plenty of capacity, had no problems in the four years' of use they've had, including various camping trips running fridges etc. Just use a simple X-Charge to split the charging current, nothing fancier than that.
Personally I'm not sure than any of these 'special' batteries are worth the price. Sure they're good, but are they more than twice as good like they are the cost? |

That's not how things work on this forum... If we go that route, we'd all have brownchurch roof racks, a pup tent, rally giant spot lights, SAT's on rostyles, pin stripes and a red light on our diff....... Tractor batteries just ain't cricket

Whereas the Optima yellow top and the Odyssey 1500 are similar size battery and in the same sort of price bracket, both are A GM batteries there is a big difference in characteristics.
Both batteries are combined starter/ leisure batteries
Off top of my head the yellow top is a 55 amp hr battery, the 1500 a 68 amp hr battery. The 1500 also has higher CCA figures etc. We use to use Optimas, now use Odyssey batteries. Simon need a chat about various items! Brendan |

The D44 tray has the logo cut in the middle which makes the retaining bar want to flex at this point. The batteries are fixed at either side of the bar but there is no middle fixing (again because the logo is there).
I have fitted a few of these that customers have supplied so these are my personal observations, the Flatdog one has three fixing points and a solid plastic bar making the clamping arrangement more robust. We looked at various suppliers and in the end went along the roads of making our own which we sell with our twin battery kit which anyone is welcome to come along and see at Billing MK2. I have never looked at selling it on it's own but I would say the cost would be about £40 - £45 each which si the same as most of the others. I cannot take any pictures of one fitted as the Speaker 110 is not here at the minute. |
