Traffic & grass verges
I was stuck in traffic on the way home and I thought......I can just hop up the curb and drive over the grassy verge. Is this illegal?
I really need to find someone local, with a Defender, to show me some good places to off road. Now, i'm as slow as a snail now and would like to start off on the responsible foot and respect the environment Very Happy
Anyone Wiltshire way? Or does anyone organise off road trips?

Using the grass verge because you are stuck in traffic? Am not sure about the legality of it, am guessing at the very best it would be a grey area, if not outright illegal. Much like using a bus lane or hard shoulder to get pass congestion

However driving on a grass verge to get around traffic because of congestion does not come under the bracket of 'to start off on the responsible foot and respect the environment'

OK using verge for short distance to get around an accident is a different thing to just using it to get 6 cars in front because of congestion.

Using the verge as a traction aid because the road is a skid pan is also a different matter.

For green laning in Wiltshire either give Bpman a shout or find your local 4x4/LR club.

Thanks Brendan Very Happy
I like your responsible answer. I was taught in the LRE day that Environment is one of the 3 important considerations, the other two being passengers & vehicle.
Of course I want to get started on the right foot Very Happy Thumbs Up Clare

I'm near Marlborough and both live to lane (as well as living on a green lane!). Always planning the next trundle... JB
