Well working for the worlds largest oil operating company and armed with a discount fuel card, mpg is the least of my worries. but being an engineer and have a mind the ticks away and knowing I can't drive to Aberdeen from London on one tank of fuel, it would be interesting to know how far I could get befor I would have had to fill up if there was a 3.2L lump in the front Thud Russell

Very nice.

As a side note, I used to drive a shogun 3.2 4cyl diesel SWB (up until last november when it grenaded itself), but that used to give about 24~28mpg driven fairly hard.

OK, i've been thinking about this conversion (well... lusting is a better word) and I have some questions please Pete... just generally interested really, most certainly not trying to pick holes in anything

Does this engine use the original chassis mounts? is the 5cyl similar in size and mountings to the puma 4cyl?

original radiator?

Does much of the wiring loom need to be changed? i figure the original engine loom will be useless as it's only designed for a 4cyl, same with the ECU. does the puma dash wiring need much modification?

Will this conversion work with 2.2 and 2.4 original engines?

Is the MT85 gearbox the same dimensions as the puma 'box? does the LT230 t/box fit onto the transit main box easily?

what autobox fits this engine?


Just about to check my lottery numbers for tonight now... I'll be in touch! (if i win..... more than a tenner....)

Hi

Final info a little early to give away as some stuff is not finished.

No chassis changes.

Neneoverland made engine mounts to lower the engine as their personal choice, original Defender ones do fit but it would possibily need bonnet modification to allow for the bigger bump at the front part of the bonnet due to AC pump and extra cylinder. Egnine is only longer front to back for the extra cylinder the rest is the same.

Original radiator and intercooler at this moment in time but will eventually get replaced with larger diamiter intercooler

Wiring I cant give more public info just yet on how I have done it. Im swarn to silence lol
That said I say have it all patched to the puma dash as it should be so all instruments are as factory temp. rev counter battery light, etc etc Mr. Green

The conversion will fit any puma driven chassis with puma mounts, or any defender chassis with new mounts fitted to chassis.

Its an Ashcroft puma manual hybrid made for this application, using the transit box with the puma defender back end allowing the LT230 fitment. The standard 2.4 gearbox could possibily be used but it may be weak and would need some slight modifications to mating correctly.

Auto is on the cards but not available yet.

More will be told in LRO mag soon, with it also available to see on my stand at Billing Landrover Show at the end of the month as long as the owner doesnt want it back first hehe.

Thanks Pete. It was just for my own (and the forums) interest really.

My hat goes off to you for interogating the electronics and making it all work.

just one more... does the super puma anti stall still work? (is this done in the engine ECU? so would it be lost on the transit ECU or can this "program" be transferred over?.... doesn't really matter because when I win the lottery i'll have ARBs or Ashcroft lockers front & back anyway Laughing )

blimey you mean iv got to cut more off the chassis i think im guna bring my tape measure to billing i dont have air con so hopefully leave the mounts where they are 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs
3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P
hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit
ashcroft atb in transfer box
6 speed auto in build

I drive a 2010 transit for work with the 2.4 in it and it has anti stall and hill start built in so would presume the 3.2 is the same.

32 years as a sparkie on Hercules, Harriers, Tornados and the last 2 on high speed catamarans your picture doesn't frighten me! Try sorting it when it's all been fried and is all charred and blackened due to an engine bleed air leak at 400 degrees....Now we're talking....Bring it on!
