headlamp switch problem
anyone have one or have replaced one?

2 times: it is a easy work. Took 1 hour or less.
Appear to be a common fault (at least in mine).

Told it's a common fault, mine went after 2 years, just wouldn't turn on. Seemed locked solid.

wouldn't it be great if a forum sponsor could supply a "relay upgrade" kit ?

I have a spare switch for just such an occasion, and indeed the contacts are housed on a soft/plastic sheet/backing. when they get warm, they melt and the contacts no longer make contact.

having said that, it's pretty easy to wire up a relay ... Thumbs Up

I agree - making a realy kit is simple and we have all the parts in stock. However it is the spec of the kit that makes it complicated.

A few examples would be

Tinned cable to resist corrosion?
Waterpoof relay holders and bases?

All these add cost then we tend to get blasted by people who can pick the parts up from Ebay for 15

They all look fantastic and the light they throw is too. I am only too well aware of the vulnerability of glass.... Whistle I saw the polycarbonate lenses at the B & W show and personally am glad I have the glass ones. It will be interesting to get feedback about the polycarbonate lenses from avid offroaders and from hotter climes to see how they stand up to the rigours of scratching, hot sun etc....I was wondering if the lenses may go opaque after a while? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

it is a easy work. Took 1 hour or less

Mine burnt out (on a TD5), coupla minutes wiv a Pozidriv screwdriver, job done.

BUT, on my LHD Puma it looks as though some of the fixings on the underside of the steering wheel cowling are made inaccessible by the mini shelf underneath it.

I havent looked too closely, but when this switch burns out (note I didnt say if), is it necessary to remove this mini shelf to split the cowling - I couldnt see at first glance where it was fixed - and how fiddly is it?

Peter - do you have the same heat from the left and right sides of your heater ? I have LHD model too and there is a small difference .. did you have yours fixed ?

I made a loom for my 110 after the lights died on Salisbury plain one night.

I just used 2 relays, a plug from an old switch and a socket (for the same) that I had on an old dash loom.

It's prely plug & play, as the relays get their voltage from the main headlight feed anyway. the switch just turns the relays on (one for sidelights, one for main beam) and the relays do the switching.

With a bit of cable, about 6", there's enough slack to fit the relays behind the dash.

Anyone got a part number for the light switch? Lucas or LR. Is it the plug in or the flat spade type connecor?Might get a spare. Went on the tdi a few years back, interesting journey home using the hazard warning lights! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
