110 station wagon speaker upgrade
Chaps, am i right in thinking the standard fit speakers are 4" all round?

If so, what the largest size i could realistically fit in the standard positions? You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

Well, if you have the dash-top tweeters, they certainly aren't 4" Rolling Eyes

I have put 2-way 6" round speakers in the rear with only a bit of filing necessary to enlarge the hole in the standard plastic trim pieces... but I wouldn't bother doing it again. Just get a compact sub-woofer and mount it to the back of the centre console. There is nothing you can do the the rear speakers in a 110 wagon that will make much difference to the sound. They are just too far away from where you sit and get blocked by luggage/cargo.

Judging by how long the OE head unit lasts, it seems LR agree with that sentiment Rolling Eyes

Solmaniac is right - a SW behind the cubby box is your best upgrade, then look at some decent tweeters to replace the shrill, nasty pieces of Censored that LR fit. That will go a long way towards hiding the desperately poor units under the dash.

If you cover the whole inside of the 110 in egg boxes and swap out the engine for a 1.2L petrol from a VW Polo and put on slick tyres you should get excellent sound quality.

Just fitted some infinity reference tweeters and 4" units in the dash and some 6x9s in MDf boxes in front of the standard rear speaker positions, all running from a Alpine head unit....good upgrade but i agree with the powered sub as the bass is a bit "distant" even biasing the speakers to the rear, will get one later in the week. You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

I put one of these in the box under the drivers seat.

Just one thing, dont wear loose fitting shorts and listen to the new prodigy album at the same time, if you do you will find your nuts will bounce on the seat like beans on a snare drum.

Had a listen to Steve's setup last night. It definitely needs the extra bass, but one hell of an improvement on the original POS speakers and head unit Bow down
