Has anyone used a plug-in tuning module instead of a remap ?
I just wondered because I have a module from these guys for my last motor (£150 but never used it)

This firm's products were highly recommended by Practical Mechanics magazine. If I remember correctly it works by by passing the MAP sensor, takes 10 mins to fit and gives better fuel consumption and more low rev grunt. I am aware that there are loads of these things about but this one in particular was singled out as the best.

There's no doubt that Alive and BAS are the Rolls-Royce of remapping/performance enhancement but I wondered if a similar result might be acheived for a smaller outlay

Anyone used one ? Did it work ?

I had a plug in box on my TD5 when I bought it. It went well enough when you were giving it lots of throttle a massive surge of power, (well relative to standard) but not very driveable in normal situations. In fact I unplugged it and prefered driving it without it. I then got an IRB/BAS stage 1 tune, that made the LR far more driveable. My advise would be spend the money on a remap.

I had a DasTek plug-in on my Discovery. Already fiited to my Defender, when I bought it, was a Steinbauer plug-in.

Got rid of the Steinbauer in favour of a 'proper' tune from BAS. I think that says it all....

The TR 90 had a Dastek plug in fitted when I bought it and it worked well, gave a lot more mid range without the TD5 lag and worked even better with the transfer box upgrade fitted. John

plug-in chips are not worth it. All they do is basically fool the ECU into overfuelling.

Get a proper remap from BAS/Alive, etc. --
