Low Ratio Senor
Hi ALl
posted a thred about idle jack, and this is related to it. the question i have is this:

if i where to disconnect the low ration sensor wire, which sends a signal to the ECU to operate the engine slightly different, i.e. throtle responce and IDLE JACK, and then went onto use low ratio, what effect would this have on the running of things? i understand that the idel jack would not longer kick in, and that i would have a throtle action of road use, but would there be any other effects, say on traction conrol?

the dealership have spoken to land rover, who have said not recomended, but did not offer an explanation why. i am not sure if i poised the question correctly, or they understood fully what i was hoping to achieve. the reason why i need to loose IDLE JACK id that when i low ratio, it kicks in, and because i have an auto box fitted, the landy runs off.

thougths and comments are welcome. i have a wireing diagrame, so i can see which wire needs to be disconected, but would like more info on this before i go ahead and try it. Cheers

Hi Andrew
thought about that, but need to know what effect it will have on the running, eg, will it go bang, or will i cause damage in another way? the logic is fairly sound, but i could be missing something. Cheers

Its only there to lift the revs to reduce the sever engine braking that the Puma has, and its only really required when going down very steep slopes.

i cant see how disconnecting the sender will make it 'not run' i would try it. the td5 had a similar setup and you either disconnected it or joined the two wires to turn it off.

I expect it would just not remap the low range pedal travel and you would not get idle jack, although i did think the idle jack had a sensor on 1st gear rather than just low. ie you had to have 1st and low for it to work.

disconnecting low should do it though. Cheers

that was my therory to, the good thing though, is i have had an auto box fitted, so no first gear sensor connected. and the idle jack kits in in second, so i i think i will locate the high low swhich and disconect.

what this space, or the 10'clock news for results! Cheers

Update
Hi
just a quick update, found the low ratio switch connector last night, and disconected it. all works fine, no issues at all.
next step is to add a switch in line, so i can turn select the funtion at will, Cheers

when you say all works fine do you mean with it disconnected you dont get idle jack and the low range fueling?

Does the anti stall still work the same - i would presume yes. Cheers

the only differenc i have noticed is that i do not get the idle jack, which is a pain when you have an auto box fitted as i do.
as for the fueling, i did not know that was altered in anyway. perhaps you could explain what changes. Cheers

i was aware that you get a different throtle responce, so that you have more control, but was not aware that the fueling was altered. can you explain in what way? as interested in why the fueling should need to be changed, as this will effect the running will it not? Cheers
