I had a play with one (a sahara) about two years ago. I got the salesman to take off all the doors and roof etc, they just lifted out, it's a fantatic and simple system. Oh, not to mention that even with that option to just take them off, the panel aligment and door seals are absolutely spot on. Not something that a defender can say really.

Also the inside was all compressed rubber with drain holes so very very easy to clean - just stuff a hose in and wash out all the mud etc. They're very good vehicles, as the sales numbers confirm, and those people who whine about them should try one. Ditto Landcruiser - the older ones are just SO much better than a defender in terms of capability and mechanicals. Having said that I still love the defender, just wish it was a bit more modern which hopefully the concept car will lead to.

The problem with the concept car is it's not a modern Defender, it's a semi-modern something else. The new Wrangler is a modern Jeep Wrangler. Really hits the spot in that respect.

Don't forget that the Jeep mentioned only has a towing capacity of 1,000kg.

That said from the US offroad porn mags the wifes brings home the Yanks certainly know how to make the Wrangler 'fit' for purpose to use on the trails.

Best comment was in regards to keeping things simple - certainly agree
