England 2003 Defender 90 Td5 HT Rutland Red
Looking at the size quoted in the article the DC100 is -
only 100mm shorter than a 110
or 2 foot longer than a 90
200mm wider
170mm lower
So it is wide and low but also long - a long wheel base will be very long - too long?

I'd like to see what the length of the load space is as it looks way shorter than a 90 from driver/passenger seats to the back door. Looks like they've made the cabin more roomy for the comfort of the driver (which isn't a bad idea) at the expense of the 'use' aspects (which would be a rather backward step). These are the sorts of things they'll need to work on if indeed it is going to do all the things a Defender does.

If its on a disco chassis it will be cavernous. The only thing better for moving lots of stuff is a 130. My 90 is tiny in the back with the seats down.

A better comparison is probably with the RR Sport, as it's currently on one of those chassis. Imagine one of those with the rear seats folded, but a shorter rear overhang, and that should give a good idea. Darren

RRS chassis is the same as the D3/4 chassis (albeit the RRS is 5" shorter in wheel base) - they are both on the T5 platform.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Yeah, I know. It's the fact that the RRS chassis length matches the concept that I was getting at. Darren

I'm aware that is it a longer chassis than a 90 Defender and therefore perhaps more comparable to current 100" models. However, I don't think at the moment it is easy to compare those 100"s with the concept, as pictured.

My point was that in the pictures the doors are longer than the Defender and the seats seem a long way back... the rear tub therefore seems to be very short, looking at the point from the back edge of the door pillar to the end of the rear wing.

Maybe it is all deceptive in the photos, but all the length of the 100" chassis seems to be taken up with engine compartment and, in particular, the cabin, with much less of the chassis length given to load space....

In fact, having just done a bit of reading, it turns out that it's on a shortened RRS chassis, so meaningful comparisons are going to be null and void anyway Rolling Eyes

I guess we're all just going to have to wait and see afterall. Darren

Having just read that the Freelander 2 short term future is a cosmetic & gadget facelift, I'm wondering if the DC will also shoot off into Freelander 3C.

The DC100 Sport SUV certainly seems like its aimed for the Freelander 1 soft top Safari's successor.

With RR Evoques & the soft roader DC100, will there truly be a place in the LR range for Freelanders any more.

Digressing, will there be DC vans, pickups, crew cabs etc. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

More Interesting Reading ... this time not from magazines...

Last month when I was in Solihull, among other stuff bought a book, "Born In Lode Lane" by Roger Crathorne, the man some call Mr Land Rover...
Although it's not new, it has some interesting reading, about LR and the future Defender, of wich I higlight these lines, reproduced below -remember the book was written in 2008, long before the first sketch of the DC100 was released/known -(sorry if some of you have read it) :
