do you mean the wiper motor or the two wiper spindles? also what year defender is it, answers to these questions will make it easier to help you.

why does it have to be replaced?

Theres a really good step by step write up on here somewhere, not a massive job just fiddly.
I had a circlip come off the internal wheel, so I swapped out the park switch and fitted new wheel etc, pulled the rack out, turned wheel boxes 180 degrees greased everything and reassembled for under £25 IIRC Good luck! Keith |
