Anyone fitted a Alive decat and pipe?
I've got myself an alive decat and wondering to get the old pipe and cat off down and out will I need to remove the cross member?

It's getting remapped Monday afternoon so I'd like to have it fitted before then.

You will need to remove the crossmember unless you are prepared to cut the old pipe.

Removing the crossmember is easy - four bolts each side, and a biff from a hide mallet to knock it out. You can also copperslip the bolts and contact surfaces before putting it back, and you will probably need the mallet to help put it back. So many jobs on the Defender (propshaft, t-box flange, exhaust, clutch etc) are made easier with the crossmember off that in my view it is worth getting practised and keeping the bolts greased. With practice it is probably 15mins to remove, the same to fit. Taking it off can easily save half an hour on the job.

I unbolted the front propshaft too on removal, the catalytic converter is the size of a small emersion heater and is a tight squeeze if you want it out in one piece. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Yep, same here. Removed both the cross member and the front propshaft.

I cut the old pipe with a reciprocating saw. Took about 2 minutes. Couldn't get the cross member to shift. And like K9F already mentioned, you have to unbolt the front propshaft. I also had to remove the left rear mudflap and holder to get the original exhaust pipe out.

Using a bottle jack and a couple of blocks of wood you can spread the chassis legs slightly to aid removal of the crossmember.
