Belgium 2007 Defender 130 Puma 2.4 HCPU Zermatt Silver
Belgian 130 HCPU says hi!
Hi guys!
Greetings from Belgium! The name is Carlos (half Mexican on mother's side) hence the Taquito nickname Wink and I've been blessed with my very own (secondhand) Defender 130. It was a trade-in for my sister's Freelander2, that had a bit too much horsepower for me (first car), also we needed a proper vehicle to do some 'dirty' work with. We (just me and my dad) are running a small company specialized in high-end camera monitor and TPMS systems . Since the majority is fitted on heavy equipment we needed a vehicle that oozes heavy duty, enter the one and only Defender Smile
She had 150.000 km on the clock when we bought her, and this is how she looked on our LR-dealer's parking lot :

Our Land Rover experience had been limited to my dad's L322 ('06) and my sister's Freelander2 so when you're used to that, and get in a Defender for the very first time, holy sh*t Smile what did we get into Smile ? This thing is like a frickin' tank Smile I love it! Even little kids start pointing at you when you drive by, haha, awesome Smile

Our first 'upgrade' was to install one of our camera systems, under the category ; complete overkill : I went for the mil-spec heavy duty monitor Wink that sucker is IP65, 20G vibration, quad image etc... Since the defender is going to be our 'poster child' we installed a grand total of 4 camera's giving a complete surround view (like on the new RR) Again complete overkill since you get a VERY good view using the left and right mirrors, the rearview camera does help when backing up and hitching. Second to install was one of our TPMS systems.
Will not ramble on or make a photo shoot about camera/TPMS mods , since it's not the intention to plug my own hole here. We will do so through the official channels-topics (hopefully we will have the website ready soon, as we want to officially sponsor the defender2.net forum )

Browsing Ebay for some "steals" I found a guy that makes leather steering wheel covers, I must say , it took me and a friend about 2 hours to install, but man o' man, what a difference, it feels very classy indeed Wink and this for +- 20 Euros!!

We then had a 2-week discussion on "hard-top Vs tonneau Vs canvas tent". Hard-top did not win because of the steep price (I would have gone with an AFN since it's ALU and resembles the defender roof lines). Tonneau as well as the canvas tent lost , due to 'security issues' since a simple pocket knife would be sufficient to "help yourself to a five finger discount" Wink
I wanted something more or less tailor-made (not just a standard one-piece cover), so after extensively searching the WWW we discovered a UK based company that make custom ALU-linings (N+J linings). After a few mails and phone calls, discussing what we wanted, she was on her way over to Belgium :

That's about it I guess. Things that still on the menu are : cubby box, remap, A-bar, some extra lights, ALU rims, etc. Hope you guys will follow this topic as my 'baby' grows up Wink

Almost forgot!! The thing that really made me LOVE the defender is 'brotherhood amongst defender drivers' I'm still as happy as a five year old on Christmas-eve when I cross another Defender and the hand goes up to salute each other Smile I'm never getting rid of this car Smile

Grtz!

I think I want a 130 Whistle

Any chance I could get more info on your camera system and setup as it sounds excellent? Please email me if you can?

That's a nice looking truck and I like your solution for the load bed cover. Is it riding on Freestyle alloys though? If so, they aren't rated for the gross weight of a 130. Darren

GREENI, AndrewS, mick , thank you all for the warm welcome!

@Lorryman100, thanks for asking, check mailbox Wink

@LandRoverAnorak, the rims should be the standard steel heavy duty ones, I was afraid they would come in white as seen in the brochures, luckily they were black Smile

Grtz!!

@ peter, the backpart with the "gullwing" cover is bolted on. Luckily the holes from the previously installed hardtop matched nicely! Cool

@ Zagato, tnx! Smile I'm still having a love-hate relation towards the black accents...

@ bpman, you're right, but I do like the look of a chunky offroad tire and a nice rim, like andrews has on his grey 130, those are sweet! Whistle

Hope to find the time to start adding some bits and pieces! It's just that were swamped with work for the moment Big Cry

Any thoughts on a "classy" steering wheel? The ones I found on the net escaped from a "fast and the furious tuning beats" car.

Grtz!!
