TGF 3 year warranty
Driving yesterday the 110 sounded slightly different. Couldn't put my finger on it or describe it - it was almost as if the sound of the road was minutely different Confused

Anyway, 5 minutes later the ABS and handbrake warning lights come on Mad Rolling Eyes

I bloody hate taking it to the dealers, its such a kerfuffle.

The manual says with the ABS light, seek attention and avoid heavy braking. The parking brake light on during travelling without the brake on means 1 of 4 brake faults, apparently.

My money is on a f****d ABS sensor. At least i hope that's all it is. Anyone had the same experience?

The Stealership, as usual, are as accommodating and helpful as dead nazis and I ended up being seen by a chap from LR Assitance. Within 20 mins of the phone call he was here at work with the laptop plugged in to the 110. Delighted with that brilliant service. I shall always use them from now on. Helpful, punctual, efficient and articulate.

Diagnosis - the ABS controle module is throwing out no signals at all. All the signals are going in but nothing out. Ironically a lot like the brains of the service team at my local dealer Shocked

ABS module is knackered deep inside. I need a new one.

The 110 is going in on Sat anyway for them to seal the snorkel properly, not having done so when they attached it Mad The girl said to me, "Well we've got your car for quiet a few things on Saturday anyway, so will be able to diagnose the ABS fault then". Turns out there's 2.5 hours worth of recall items to be sorted that they'd kept quiet.

At least the 110 drives OK. Apparently the hand brake light comes on to indicate a brake fault as well as the ABS light indicating an ABS problem. Belt & braces.

The moral of this (dull) story is - if in doubt and you're under warranty, call LR Assistance. Then you can speak to your dealer armed with the correct information.

Reading this post again, I appreciate it not going to win the Defender2.net interesting post award 2009. Sorry - it might be useful to someone who has same symptoms as me.

Thumbs Up

There's no such thing as a dull post.

I'd be very interested in getting that list of recall items that they're finally getting round to. I want to take the list to my local dealer and ensure they do them too.

I've dealt with LR assistance in the past and have been very impressed - they know their stuff and seem to be genuinely enthusiastic. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS
+ New Defender 110 First Edition

That's what impressed me most too, Alan.

I'm going to try my best to get hold of a copy of the job list on Saturday. If i succeed, i'd post a pdf of it on here.
Thumbs Up

Yep,
Full marks from me too for LR assist after the front crownwheel shed two bolts. They had a loan car from LR at the dealership for me when I arrived.

Dont always praise them!

First you dont always get a LR engineer so you get the Std recovery company

Second - last time i used them it took almost 2 days to get a car, 1.5 to get a car then another .5 to be given the correct car. Mike

I have found out what the recall items are in vague terms - it's having a new brake pipe (don't know any more than that) and a new oil pan.

They're sorting them out week tomorrow when they're replacing the dead ABS module.

Our LR assist is a freelander driven by a technician from my local dealer. Puma 110 - gone
Series III 1973 - going strong

Brake pipe will be to fix this http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic159.html?highlight=brake+pipe

The replacement sump/oil pan is a modified or re shaped oil pan that replaces the original one as that gets clouted by the front axle when maximum articulation occurs.
