The cause is the switch overheating and melting as there is NO relay on a Defender. The power runs up the steering column.

Fit a relay kit and the problem will be solved. Also the lights will be mu ...

I put mine into the dealer to have it attended to and they changed to roll bar rubbers. Driving away from their workshop the clunk was still there!

Yes, I think that's what he intends to do. I did this with a TD5 too, but the switch melting problem remains.

Welcome Gerry,

Defenders lack a headlight relay, meaning that the headlight power runs up the steering column to the switch. In time the switch melts and has to be replaced.

I suggest you fit a ...

Prior to having the clutch replaced my Puma was quite clunky. I had to concentrate on getting a smooth change. The replacement clutch solved the problem. However, I recently had the ECU upgrade (V2 I ...

The Puma gearchange should be sooo smooth. Don't let the dealer tell you that clunking is normal. It isn't.

If you have a dragging handbrake fix this first. If it still clunks then it is the clutch ...

I wonder why LR specify such a low pressure for the front? I run 38/42, but the dealer always adjust to 42PSI all round!

Tim, I bought a TD5 new in 2001 and experienced what I thought was a rear diff whine at at around 100 - 110kph.
The dealer said it wasn't the diff but the transfer gears. I didn't believe him, but he ...

Mine has the same grinding noise when backing off the throttle at around 110kph. The dealer drove it but was unable to hear the noise. I suspect he didn't take it for a long enough run as it only appe ...

Yes, that could well be the sound. Should I dismantle and check or leave it to the dealer?

Thanks,
